DEAD SET
brings a new
hard rock attitude to
Darlinghurst
Opening weekend January 30th and 31st –
featuring DOWNGIRL, LIQUID ZOO + late-night DJs
.

On January 30, DEAD SET, a new underground live music room opens beneath Kinselas Hotel at Taylor Square. Built for raw rock, alternative and indie acts alongside late-night DJs, the opening weekend will feature DOWNGIRL and LIQUID ZOO. Deep below one of Sydney’s most recognisable corners, DEAD SET is fun and full of character, dimly lit with arcade machines, rock’n’roll playlists and jam-packed with vibe. It runs as a hard rock ‘hang’ from Thursday to Sunday, with live bands showcasing on Friday and Saturday nights.
From opening weekend, DEAD SET will host local and touring bands, late-night DJs and one-off surprise shows, afterparties and industry showcase nights. The programming will be anchored in Hard Rock, celebrating the genre and its rich wealth of sub-categories such as Punk, Metal, Doom, Alt and so on, serving the audience, the artists and the music community around it.
The name DEAD SET nods to live music sets and the building’s rich history. Situated below what was once Kinselas’ funeral chapel[1] the room is rumoured to have once been a morgue. The iconic site has shifted from solemn to loud and proud over decades of nightlife, performance and culture.
The launch is another exciting addition to Taylor Square’s expanding hospitality and entertainment precinct, building on recent openings including tiki bar Happy Talk and new accommodation at Courthouse Hotel. DEAD SET is for people who still want to stand close to the stage, feel the room move and stay out late enough to see what comes next.
Location:
Basement, Kinselas Hotel – 383 Bourke Street Darlinghurst, NSW 2010
Enter via Little Oxford Street (at the rear of the venue)
Opening hours:
Thursday through Sundays, 5pm till late with live bands Friday and Saturday nights.

AMNPLIFY – DB

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
