Double J is Australia’s #1 digital-only radio station; launch of live music program
Double J is Australia’s most listened-to digital-only radio station, with numbers released today by industry ratings provider GfK pointing to a 5 city weekly reach of 200,000 people in the first digital radio ratings survey for the year[i].
The GfK data, which surveys digital radio listening in the 5 DAB+ enabled capital cities, covers listening via digital radio and online and demonstrates that ABC digital-only stations Double J, ABC Jazz and triple j Unearthed account for three of the top five most listened-to stations across the 5 cities.
ABC Radio’s DAB+ digital radio success was bolstered by ABC Grandstand, ABC Country and ABC Extra in the top 15 stations across the 5 cities.
Further ABC research for Double J, which includes regional Australia and TV listening audiences (Double J is available via channel 200), points to a far greater weekly audience when all listening methods are considered. The ABC conducted 3 nationally representative surveys through the Research Nowonline research panel from August 2016 – January 2017. These surveys of 4,200 Australians identified an overall weekly listening reach of approximately745,000 people for Double J.
This month sees Double J expand its music content offering with the launch of a new weekly live music program, Live at the Wireless on Double J. While triple j’s Live At The Wireless will continue to focus on performances by new and current artists, the Double J program of the same name will feature iconic live recordings from the past 40 years, as well as artists currently touring the country like Teenage Fanclub, Kurt Vile, Martha Wainwright and Spoon, plus festival highlights from WOMAD, Bluesfest and A Day on the Green, all recorded by Double J’s award winning live music team. Live at the Wireless on Double J will launch on 4 April and will air at 3pm Tues, repeated at 12pm Sat.
Double J launched in 2014 as a much-needed destination for music-lovers wanting to enjoy the songs they grew up with in the 90s and 2000s, as well as discovering the best new music from Australia and around the world. The station has built a solid reputation as a trusted contemporary music authority, based on expert programming, daily shows by high-profile hosts such as Myf Warhurst and its position as a destination for audiences to share and celebrate the music they love most.
Reflecting on Double J’s successes, Meagan Loader, Double J’s Content Director says “These ratings results across all listening platforms highlight Double J’s deep understanding of its audiences’ needs, as their lives change and they move out of their 20s. Double J’s reach extends even further via its warm and intimate engagement on social media. Last week we celebrated reaching 100,000 followers on Facebook alone, where our posts generate lively debate amongst like-minded music lovers.” She added “The much loved Live at the Wireless format will further cement Double J as the go-to place for great music content in your 30’s and beyond.”
