Dr. Colossus have just released their second full length studio record entitled ‘I’m A Stupid Moron With An Ugly Face And A Big Butt And My Butt Smells And I Like To Kiss My Own Butt’ and they’re taking this sheer Springfieldien wonderment on tour!

The Melbourne four-piece have been dishing out Simpsons inspired doom-rock for a good part of the last decade and have built a solid reputation for being a highly engaging band that’s not afraid to poke a little fun while still carrying a ton of weight with their songwriting. This new record stands up to that reputation and takes things even further…a lot further. When you think about a band that plays music inspired by a cartoon, it’s easy to perhaps pass them off as a novelty or simply a ‘laugh’. But take a second to listen to this album, and you’ll find something that goes much deeper than merely poking jokes. While all lyrical content is directly drawn from Simpsons episodes, it’s the way things are cleverly phrased and entwined with the music that makes this such a fantastic record. There’s plenty of big doomy/ stoner riffs, exciting changes and gracefully placed touches of sitar, organ and other accompanying instruments throughout the record. It has all that groove and oomph you want from a doom rock release to get you moving and in the mode to party. Yet, it also blends some much deeper shades and sombre vibes to it. It ever so subtly shifts the listener from a big rocking riff into reflective, more emotional moments – As though it’s pulling a much deeper and more meaningful sentiment from the lyrical content than just referencing a Simpsons episode.

This new release is a record that almost never happened. In 2017 after the release of their debut LP “The Dank”, drummer and founding member Nathan Johnston (Dr. Johnston) tragically passed away unexpectedly from a brain aneurysm. The album had been released but touring for it never happened. Dr. Colossus (at the time, a trio) stopped completely. Mourning the loss of Nath, the remaining members called it a day. In the months following, a tribute show for Nathan brought the band together with Dr. Jon’s brother, Dr. Leg (Joel Colliver) and a life-long friend of the band Dr. Skin (Josh Eales). After a long gap in between and a great deal of soul searching in 2019. The band decided to continue with the new lineup as Nath would have wanted. When listening to the record with this in mind, it almost feels like the band has carried some of that loss and mourning into the songs. While at the same time using it as a celebration of their dear friend’s life. It’s an album that brings depth and emotion while not forgetting to kick things into gear with some all-time rocking riffs. Somehow, Dr. Colossus have turned what started as a Simpsons themed doom rock band and created one of the most dynamic heavy acts in the country.

The new Dr. Colossus’s record ‘I’m A Stupid Moron With An Ugly Face And A Big Butt And My Butt Smells And I Like To Kiss My Own Butt’ is an incredible musical creation that takes the listener on one hell of a journey. Catch them this June as they take their high energy live shows, elaborate stage props, brash costumes and bombastic antics to venues along the east coast.
