returns from the wilderness
with new album
‘TREASUREVILLE’
due for release in May

Tidal Peak is a dreampop/shoegaze recording project started in 2015 by Kyle Lacko, who throughout the decade has remained the sole constant member and primary architect of the project’s music, releasing one album and a handful of EPs and singles with the last release being ‘Shimmer’ in 2020. The project has also functioned as a live band from time to time, sporadically playing gigs in and around venues in Toowoomba and Brisbane and supporting artists such as Lucy Korts, Mode Atlanta and Ipswich’s own Coalfalls.

After almost five years without releases, Lacko has announced a new full-length Tidal Peak LP , titled ‘Treasureville’. The album is set to be self-released on 16th May via Lacko’s own Innersea Records imprint, and will be available on limited edition CD and cassette tape. The album’s lead single ‘Coasting’ will hit streaming services this Friday (14/3).

“Treasureville” comes after a lengthy and difficult history of recording, with Lacko documenting its beginnings in late 2019 where he spent the next several years “obsessively labouring over the project, scrapping the whole thing twice over before the album was finally moulded into its desired shape.” More than just a collection of songs, there is a strong thematic link throughout the LP . The second half of the album features a 28-minute conceptual song suite titled ‘Return To Capricorn’, inspired by Lacko’s experiences of growing up in his hometown of Yeppoon on the Capricorn Coast.

“There is a running theme of nostalgia for one’s own childhood and lovelorn adolescence throughout the suite’s five tracks.” says Lacko. “It felt natural to look back and write about the place I had literally grown up in, metaphorically returning to where a lot of friendships and relationships had shaped me”.

Those familiar with the sounds of Tidal Peak will find the album weaves Lacko’s meticulously crafted trademark essence of home-recorded DIY dreampop and shoegaze with smatterings of progressive pop, where synthesizers and drum machines propel the songs but also leave room for moments of atmosphere in the form of layers of guitar eﬀects, stacked vocals and feedback blending together until the sound is not unlike being underwater, reflecting the album’s ethereal, oceanic themes.
