Everyone’s favourite thrash-party headbangers, DZ Deathrays, today deliver their fourth studio album Positive Rising: Part 1 – out everywhere now via I OH YOU!

To celebrate, the band will open pop-up stores this weekend up and down the east coast starting tonight at Sydney’s Crow Bar, Saturday night at Melbourne’s Lulie Tavern and Brisbane’s The Valley Drive In on Sunday. In partnership with Young Henrys, the pop-up stores offer a chance for fans to celebrate the release of Positive Rising: Part 1, grab a photo with the band, a $7 Young Henrys tinnie and get their hands on a super limited Blue/Gold vinyl (only available at the pop-ups).

DZ have served up ‘Still No Change’, the new punk-inspired single packing a punch of raw punk insouciance. Alongside singer Shane Parsons’ documentation of feeling directionless, “it always feels like the time is wrong, all in all I guess it’s just a little unresolved,” the track is sprinkled with hopeful moments in the form of an underlying pop melody that leaves you humming and tapping along from first listen. It’s a juxtaposition of melancholy and joy – and some of DZ’s most reflective work yet.

“’Still No Change’ started from a writing session with Kim Moyes (one half of The Presets) and evolved into one of our more melodic moments on the record. Influenced by Ramones and The Strokes, ‘Still No Change’ delves into the idea of expectations of others and yourself to constantly be changing or evolving in life but not always knowing the direction you want to go.” – DZ Deathrays

‘Still No Change’ follows the first cut from Positive Rising: Part 1, ‘IN-TO-IT’, which set the tone for the band’s triumphant return to form. Accompanied by an enthralling and gritty visual, ‘IN-TO-IT’ has so far collected widespread love across triple j, community radio and RAGE. A second taste of their fourth anticipated full-length took the form of ‘Year Of The Dog’ features Matt Caughthran, frontman of The Bronx and one of DZ’s all-time favourite bands, a testament to the band’s international recognition and adoration.

Across the nine tracks, Positive Rising: Part 1 represents is a palpable and tangible progression for DZ Deathrays. Alongside Matt Caughthran’s (The Bronx) feature and the Kim Moyes (The Presents) co-write on ‘Still No Change’ Positive Rising: Part 1 also features Kirsty Tickle of Exhibitionist – yet still serves up DZs’ signature hard-hitting riffs.

On their new album, DZ Deathrays explore some uncharted territory; expect a blurring of genres, daring melodic tactics and even some spoken word. With new official third member Lachlan Ewbank joining Shane Parsons and Simon Ridley, a definite new lease on life has been breathed into DZ’s world with Positive Rising: Part 1 strapping the listener in for an unexpected yet familiar ride.

2018 was a huge year for the band, with their third LP Bloody Lovely debuting at #4 on the ARIA charts and earning them their third ARIA nomination for Best Rock/Heavy Metal Album. Earlier in 2019, DZ Deathrays released a long-awaited hip-hop collab with Australian heavyweights Trials and Briggs and young prodigy Jesswar in ‘Front Row Hustle’.

Not looking to slow down any time soon, DZ are back and ready to party. Positive Rising: Part 1 is available now and don’t miss the band this weekend at their pop-up bars and throughout October and November on their Positive Rising: Part 1 album tour.

ABOUT POLISH CLUB:
There are two of them. They are called Novak and John-Henry and are the loudest goddamn soul outfit you’ve ever heard. John-Henry is the drummer. He’s very good at hitting three separate things at once with great gravity. Novak’s the singer. He also plays a beautifully brash blues guitar. Sydney’s Polish Club writes pop songs fifty years late and twice the speed. In any one of their numbers, which barely nip at the three minute mark, the full-bodied howl of Motown’s finest frontman is parsed through the garage rock scuzz of Detroit. Polish Club released their second album Iguana on 7 June.

ABOUT VOIID:
With what started as a mutual passion of all that is female and screaming profanity lead to the four- piece of hellish girl-shriek that they now call VOIID. Taking the scene by storm since releasing their debut ‘Pussy Orientated’ EP back in 2016 and now proving they haven’t lost their touch with the release of their sophomore EP, DROOL. VOIID promise music guaranteed to make your face melt and your boyfriend cry putting on high energy performances stealing the show from the likes of, Grinspoon, Skegss, Amyl and the Sniffers, Camp Cope, Tired Lion and Drunk Mums. VOIID’s recent release ‘Drool’ dropped on 14 Jun.

ABOUT THE BUOYS:
Sydney’s all female outfit The Buoys have been making noise around Australia releasing a slew of singles and backing up shows with artists such as JUNGLE, DMA’s, Moaning Lisa, Peter Bibby, and Pist Idiots. Influenced by anything fuzzy, loud and fast, The Buoys recognisable sweet and savoury sound has developed in the last 12 months, allowing them to truly settle into their sound, paving the way for fiery anthems whilst still making time for those cruisey heart jerking songs. Inspired by workplace feuds, people who walk slowly in front of you, and a tonne of bad dates,The Buoys explore themes of uncertainty, disappointment, curiosity and determination writing mostly about everyday experiences. The Buoys released their latest single ‘Inside Outside’ on 17 April.
