Sydney indie outfit Eagle Eye Jones have today released their much-anticipated debut album New Growth out via [PIAS] Australia; recorded and produced at Studios 301 by Jack Garzonio, who worked with the band relentlessly throughout 2020 in order to perfect the songs.

Written in response to the Christchurch Mosque mass shootings in 2019, this song is almost a prayer of hope. It came forth fully developed in an hour or two and marked a distinct shift in the song writing of Eagle Eye Jones towards a more pensive, introspective relationship towards the world.After lead singer Luke Saunders shyly escaped an avalanche burial in the Himalayas, he penned the lyrics to ‘Alpine Meadows’, and their debut album was born. Seven people lost their lives at that very location some days before and Saunders was rattled to the core. From this prophetic pilgrimage, this flirting with the fragility of life, Eagle Eye Jones conceived their first full body of work.

A week after his return, Australia was flung into pandemic. Songs of isolation and alienation, but also of hope, rang true. Decades of friendship and musicianship strained under battles with addiction and mental health. Despite the turmoil, Eagle Eye Jones banded together, glued by the vision of their sound, and recorded their debut album.

The trilogy of early singles, ‘Alpine Meadows’, ‘Paperskin’ and ‘Wardrobe of Masks’, tell the chronological story of this descent into isolation and the songwriters’ increasingly dislocated, yet pleadingly hopeful, relationship to a rapidly evolving world.

From the vast orchestral landscape of ‘Alpine Meadows’, to the cascading, detuned synths of ‘Paperskin’ this album is a world unto itself. The lyrics are defiant and optimistic despite themes of mortality and climate change residing at the fore. It’s a fifty-minute foray into love lost and love gained

These ten songs are the intimate, interwoven stories of five friends. Stories of love and dislocation, triumph and desperation, life and death. Eagle Eye Jones’ debut album invites you into a lush, textural world of poetry, philosophy, song-craft, and beauty.

The band will be heading out on an east coast tour in support of their debut album across June & July, hitting the Central Coast, Wollongong, Canberra, Melbourne, Byron Bay & Sydney. Fans will be taken on an aural journey as they witness the album live for the very first time.
