Basking in the glow of its first play from Zane Lowe this week, ‘breathe’ is the follow up to bby’s recent single ‘kill me’ and packs together all the core elements of their raw and emotional sound into a 3min 25sec guttural, guitar laden hit.
As lead singer Benjy explains, ‘breathe’ depicts a panic attack and its message is clear: just breathe.
“Breathe is about a panic attack. The worst feeling for about 3 minutes and then nothing at all. Like a full body ejector seat. And so the song is like talking to yourself or talking to a friend. It’s the most pumpingly present feeling that you can’t escape but at the same time the only thing you can do is breathe. Again and again. As slow as you can. The rest of the band are like swallowing me in sound, but like still this voice is like fighting for air and to be heard.”
After meeting on the internet over a shared love of music, bby emerged seemingly out of nowhere in 2023, with the release of ‘hotline’, which saw them play to a packed crowd at Leeds Festival, perform at the coveted BBC Maida Vale Sessions, named ‘Introducing Track of the Week’ on BBC Radio 1 and chart in the Top 25 on the USA Alt Radio chart.
Since then, the band have continued to build up a steady fan-base through the release of culturally on-point songs like ‘money body’, ‘gold teeth & fenty’, ‘u come near’ and ‘kill me’, while creating their own cult-like scene via their insanely popular house party ‘hangs’ at their East London HQ. The chaos they create at these shows is tangible and has fans flocking to them, which in turn informs the music bby make: the fans, the space, the sweat, the vibe, the music – it all comes together as one.
Once again, the music video for ‘breathe’ is centred around their East London HQ hangs, but this time captures footage of fans arriving via their studio door Ring cam, notably including a disgruntled neighbour complaining about the noise.
It’s inevitable these DIY upstarts are going to make some noise in 2024, so why not join the hang?

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
