“Your Orbit feat Sampa the Great gallops on a tribal beat as rap’s two local It Girls spit rhymes and sing melodically.”

Herald Sun

“a slick ‘n’ swervy tribute to the golden era of hip-hop (the ’90s)—a kaleidoscopic vibe-out banger.”

 Hysteria

“‘another collab-happy track, completely changes up the pace with its chilled, spacey vibe and hip hop-lite beats… it’s dreamy cut that wouldn’t feel out of place in Santigold or Erykah Badu’s repertoire instead.”

Ecca Vandal has a reputation for being one of the most forward-thinking artists in the Australian music scene, but in her stellar new video for her single ‘Your Orbit’ featuring Sampa The Great, she’s rewinding the clock to the era of classic ’90s hip-hop clips in a spectacular way.

The electrifying, Melbourne-based musical force has teamed up with the creatives at Entropico to create the kind of video that will give you flashbacks to the Outkast universe, Naughty by Nature block parties, and the Beastie Boys spitting straight into fisheye lenses.

The video also boasts a diverse, all-female cast, back-dropped by some of Sydney’s most marginalised (the Sirius Building) and corporate (Martin Place) landmarks, making it inherently political and reinforcing Ecca and Sampa’s statuses as part of the growing list of voices challenging the status quo of what music sounds and looks like in this country and how it is seen internationally.

Lifted off her critically-acclaimed, self-titled debut album, which is out now via Dew Process / Universal Music Australia, ‘Your Orbit’ was co-written with the radar-detecting Darwin Deez and is an intergalactic voyage through universes normally only populated by the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, Erykah Badu, Outkast and Lauryn Hill. The result is unlike anything that’s previously existed in Ecca’s repertoire.

The video’s release is just another tick in the box for Vandal after experiencing some huge career moments in the last 12 months, including releasing her debut album to widespread acclaim (triple j Feature album, #9 Rolling Stone Australia’s albums of 2017, multiple 5 star reviews), performing across all dates of The Falls Music & Arts Festival, signing a global publishing deal, making her live UK debut, and being named in the NME Top 100 for 2018. She was also hand-picked as the sole support act by rock ’n’ roll royalty, Queens Of The Stone Age, for their massive Australian headline shows – playing blistering sets to warm up crowds at the Hordern Pavilion and Festival Hall.

Last week, Ecca Vandal was invited to the triple j studio to record the esteemed Like A Version segment where she performed a smooth and funky rendition of ‘Your Orbit, which featured a live verse from Sampa The Great. Ecca also performed a bad-ass reinvention of Rhianna’s smash hit ‘Bitch Better Have My Money’ with the iconic bassline of Dizzee Rascal & Calvin Harris’s ‘Dance Wiv Me’ and a taste of Kelis’ ‘Milkshake’. Pedestrian TV declared of the mash-up “You know how every now and again there’s a Like A Version that just blows your face clean off your head with how utterly good it is? Well my friends, hold onto your cheeks because today’s offering is one of those… Holy shit. Hooooly shit… I don’t want to be too keen, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a serious contender for the Hottest 100 this year.”
