Today, EGOISM returns through a technicolour lens with their addictive new single For Ages, alongside the accompanying music video. To celebrate, they announce their For Ages Tour – hitting the east coast this May and June. Marking the first new music since their 2021 single Lonely But Not Alone, the Sydney based indie-pop duo, made up of Olive Rush and Scout Eastment, use the track to highlight the importance of open conversations on mental health. With a breezy guitar riff and light pop beats filtering through the production, the song captures a hopeful outlook.
“Depressive episodes take a long time to heal from. Just over a year ago, Olive and I went to Culburra on a budget ‘writing trip’. One morning I felt just so disconnected and honestly just didn’t wanna do anything. Olive went out on a walk and I had to force myself to sit down and do something musical. By the time Olive came home, I had somehow come up with a bass line and this monotonous refrain of “ah ah ah for ages”. The song acts as a conversation between Olive and I, about where our lives were at the time. The feeling that my depressive episode was getting worse, the monotony of what being a musician had become, as well as the feeling of hopelessness in the world: it all just felt like it would never end. In some ways it was a tipping point; we could let it all fall apart or accept the stagnation. After singing it for a while, the words “for ages” started feeling like an urge to not give up” says Scout of the track.
The accompanying music video directed by Billy Zammit and filmed in Redfern, sees the duo represented through a neon world. Olive says “It really feels like all the beautiful coloured lights are just adding a little spice to what is essentially 3 minutes of us looking extremely depressed and doing very boring tasks. Billy and the crew worked non stop, between bribing the shop owners with cash to keep their stores open an extra 20 minutes, to climbing onto the roof to block out a skylight. I don’t wanna know how many Red Bull’s they collectively drank that day.”

EGOISM will hit the road for a run of headline shows this May and June with Montgomery and local special guests to be announced. Kicking off in Brisbane on Saturday 7 May, the five date run will see them showcasing new music to audiences, as well as highlighting all of the previously released fan favourites.
Pegged as ones-to-watch, EGOISM have won acclaim from industry tastemakers. In 2019 they toured with Pinkish Blu, played BIGSOUND, were nominated for both Song of the Year and Next Big Thing in the FBi SMAC awards, and became triple j Unearthed’s 11th most played artist of the year. In 2020, the band released their debut EP On Our Minds and were announced as one of 16 recipients of Unearthed’s Level Up COVID Grants, and reached #11 in the community radio charts. And in 2021 they released Lonely But Not Alone and supported Odette on her national tour, which leads them into a very exciting 2022 with the release of For Ages and their forthcoming headlining tour only marking the beginning.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
