Melbourne-based musician, Eilish Gilligan is excited to announce her forthcoming EP, First One To Leave The Party will be out on August 6 independently, as well as headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne. Today, she presents, “Get Well Soon” a striking upbeat pop track that was co-written with Gab Strum (Japanese Wallpaper), and Lach Bostock (Mansionair) and follows on from the opening cut, “Up All Night”.
Continuing to showcase Gilligan’s talented songwriting, “Get Well Soon” grapples with the anguish of grieving relationships and the process of moving on: “I’m so sick without you / I want to get better / I want to get well soon”. Gilligan’s swelling voice is perfectly complemented by the rousing synth.
Gilligan elaborates, “I wrote Get Well Soon in the midst of grieving a relationship – you know that part in the grieving process, where you start getting impatient that you’re not better yet? Yeah. That part. I dreamt of telling this person that I was so sick over them, still, after all this time – and I didn’t want them back, but I just wanted them to know that I still felt awful about the whole thing. And that I missed them.”
Having taken the opportunity to turn inward and self-produce her debut EP, Hospital, during 2020, Gilligan has returned to her collaborative nature on First One To Leave The Party, which is an aspirational collection of pop songs produced by David Haddad (Lime Cordiale, Montaigne) and features co-writes with Alex Lahey, Gab Strum of Japanese Wallpaper and Lachlan Bostock of Mansionair.
First One To Leave The Party bursts with the most wide-ranging arrangements of Gilligan’s career. As delicate synth melodies weave its way throughout the EP, Gilligan captures a specific moment in time. Each song unfurls another aspect of the final party that Gilligan attended before COVID-19 shut the world down – or at least, how Gilligan wished that final party had played out… Opening track, “Up All Night” is as dynamic as it is playful as Gilligan traces the snap decision to go out and party, to stay up all night, to replace lovers with friends, and to dance with a room full of strangers. “Get Well Soon” is the shared, sacred moment with friends in an Uber, and is followed by a sweet and melancholic ballad, “When You Forget Me”. Nostalgic laden “First One To Leave The Party” sees Gilligan find closure and self-worth, making the grand exit from the party after confessing everything she needed to say to an ex. Closing track, “It’s Not You, It’s Not Me” is the clarity, acceptance, and forgiveness as she emerges from the chrysalis.
Gilligan is deeply excited to return to the stage with an entirely new live show, after spending a year perfecting her craft, streaming performances multiple times a week live from her bedroom through her Twitch channel. Dynamic, electrifying, and expressive, Gilligan’s live show is one to remember – and these stunning new tracks, lauded by triple j, NME, Music Junkee, and more, will stick with you long after you leave the party.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
