ARIA Award-winning singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Elana Stone returns with her poignant new single ‘Cephalopods’, released today via ABC Music. The track is a reflective ode to the environment and humanity, showcasing Stone’s lyrical depth and musical versatility.
Stone also announces the release of her third studio album, Married To The Sound, set for release on Friday, September 27. The album features a rich collection of previously released singles, including the sparkly ‘People Come And People Go’, electro-pop ‘Permanent Limbo’, reflective ‘Bulletproof’‘, and the upbeat 70’s bop ‘Oregon’.
Drawing inspiration from Randy Newman or Harry Nillson, Elana describes the song as an “anthem for everything that means anything to me. It’s about kindness towards our natural world.”

‘Cephalopods’ words reflect the exasperation Elana felt towards so-called leaders – “For decades they have forgotten our environment. They continue to reinvest in damaging fossil fuels despite all the evidence that humans are engineering their own fate. I am ready for a change towards kindness and empathy, not just towards each other as people but most importantly towards our natural world.”
To create the visuals for the single, Elana teamed up with film maker and diver Aristo Risi to capture gorgeous footage of sea creatures in their habitat paired with footage of Stone in her natural habitat behind the piano.
Aristo reflects on the process, “Swimming alongside cephalopods, whether it be Squid, cuttlefish or octopus, is mesmerising. They watch and study your movements, they try to make contact and communicate their emotions with you through colourful patterns on their pixel dense skin.”

Elana comments, “We filmed the Cephalopods music video on Dharawal Country. The house in the clip belongs to the videographer Aristo Risi. It’s a dilapidated old sea sprayed rental and the last of its kind on Lawrence Hargrave Drive which is otherwise covered in coastal mansions. It is literally falling into the ocean but the views are spectacular. He managed to film actual Cephalopods (cuttle fish) who are magnificent creatures. It’s pretty simple conceptually but I think it’s really beautiful and effective.”
For her upcoming solo album she has enlisted the incredible Butternut Sweetheart (Luke Moseley) as bandmate and co-producer as well as Josh Pyke, Tony Buchen and Justin Stanley in various co-writing and co-production roles.
Elana’s new songs venture into a wide range of themes such as finding love, motherhood against the backdrop of a worldwide pandemic, climate change, social/political polarisation, friendship, love, loss, and lockdown – all served on a crispy bed of synth pop, hazy guitar and to-die-for vocal harmonies with a side of 70’s drums and in your face, fuzz bass.
“This album has been 5 years in the making. It covers a lot of emotional ground for me. This is not a jazz album. This is not a folk album. Think Billy Joel’s piano meets Kate Bush’s vocals meets Ben Folds Five’s harmonies but with Unknown Mortal Orchestra or Tame Impala as the house band. It’s indie pop! It’s a follow up to my 2015 EP Kintsugi and I can’t wait for you to hear it.”

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
