Singer/songwriter/multi- instrumentalist and ARIA Award-winning musician Elana Stone is back with her latest introspective bop – ‘People Come And People Go’ is out this Thursday March 7 via ABC Music.
The track was recorded in Dulwich Hill (Sydney) at Josh Pyke’s studio, with Josh co-producing and engineering and Elana’s long time collaborator, co-producer, bandmate and friend Luke Moseley (aka Butternut Sweetheart) on the bass, guitar, drums and backing vocals.

Elana discusses the process, “I sang the lead vocal and backing vocals and played all the piano-ey bits. We used Josh’s toy piano in the bridge which I love the sound of – it’s quite a folky sounding bridge. It was a really fun day. I love working with Josh.”
The latest single was birthed during a period where her band All Our Exes Live In Texas was on hiatus after 6 years of relentless touring both locally and internationally; what felt like the peak in her career was also married with a feeling of total burn-out. With a forced hiatus due to the world shutting down, Elana grappled with the loss of job with no partner, no savings and no work experience outside of being a musician.
Elana reflects on the song, “’I have always struggled with the fact that people can come and go from your life without warning – no matter how much love and time you have invested in them. There is no guarantee they will stick around – the only thing anyone can guarantee is that things will change. When I listen to this song I can hear that I am ready to move into the next stage of life. Overwhelmingly the song is joyous and hopeful but it was written at a time of complete personal upheaval and confusion about my identity, my relationships and my place in the world.”
Accompanying the release is a fun and colourful music video created by Ten Alphas (AACTA award winning filmmaking team – Nick Bolton and Jess Milne).

Commenting on the process Elana says, “There was a 40 person cast and crew from Sydney and the Illawarra equipped with a scissor lift, black out curtains, hazers, vintage cars and a very fancy camera. We had a choreographer (Emma Saunders) a stylist (Hannah Bella Bowden) plus crappy catering by me :/ A bunch of friends and talented strangers turned up to donate their time to perform in crazy costumes in a very hot room. I still can’t believe it happened. I’m so excited to show it to you!”
Elana Stone encompasses folk, modern electronica, indie pop and balladry, underpinned by Stone’s signature lyrical vulnerability and ear for melody.
She’s also about to hit the road as part of Missy Higgins’ band for her massive 20th Anniversary Tour for The Sound of White from March-July.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
