Indie rock juggernauts Eliza & The Delusionals invite you to immerse yourself in the lush tapestry and soundscape of their sophomore album Make It Feel Like The Garden out today via Cooking Vinyl Australia.

Crafting a visually and sonically utopian landscape, the album acts as a refuge from the real world, transporting the listener to their own happy place or “garden”. Showcasing their trademark blend of catchy hooks, driving rhythms, and contemplative lyricism, the record is a kaleidoscope of emotions and melodies.

Today the trio have shared the visuals for their latest single ‘Lately’, featuring Silversun Pickups’ lead vocalist and guitarist Brian Aubert and co-production from Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage).

The band were on tour supporting Silversun Pickups in 2022 when they mentioned to Brian they were writing their second album, and asked if he would be interested in featuring on one of the tracks. From fantasy to reality, Brian was excited by the prospect of the collaboration and the creative floodgates opened.

On the collaboration Brian says, “Eliza And The Delusionals are basically family to me. When they asked me to join them on a song I was over the moon. I love the song and I wanted it to have a certain chemistry. So I basically had to build up a sort of parasocial obsession with the sound of my longtime friend Eliza’s voice. And I did. And it was wild. And I hope it comes across because I love the song and I love this band.”

Eliza Klatt comments, “We hadn’t even written anything at the time, but we knew we wanted to write something to pay homage to the ‘90s/’2000s era of shoegaze indie music with big guitars and drum sounds. When we went into the studio the first time with Oscar (Dawson, producer), we wrote the initial idea for ‘Lately’ and knew immediately it was the perfect song for Brian to be a part of. Brian’s contribution in the writing process was like no other and we honestly couldn’t begin to express how much it meant to us, it elevated the track to new heights along with his idea to involve Butch Vig in the vocal production aspect absolutely blew us away. We really hope people can connect with the track as much as we have.”

The accompanying video, which was created by videographer and 3D designer Tom Carroll (@egumei), showcases the darker side of The Garden outside of the dreamy landscape in the artwork.

“Seeing this idea come to life has been absolutely amazing and a dream come true for us. The fact that we were able to have a music video of us existing in The Garden from our album artwork, and on top of that have Brian deliver us an iconic performance all the way from LA whilst we filmed our parts in Brisbane. We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out, and Tom Caroll aka egumei has actually worked true magic to bring it to life.”

The visual element played a pivotal part in the creation of this album, with guitarist Kurt coming up with the idea of creating a world around the garden where the band could co-exist – a lush, floral and beautiful world that you ‘escape to’ when listening to the record.

The opening track serves as a palette cleanser, guiding listeners into the immersive sonic sanctuary of the garden. Interludes named after flowers are scattered throughout the album, before the closing track gently ushers listeners back into the realm of reality, and a return to the tangible world with sounds of San Francisco.

Make It Feel Like The Garden is about escaping to a dream land, living through moments and memories that remind you of perfect places and feelings. What makes this album truly special is its universality. While it’s the band’s own interpretation of a garden, it holds the power to resonate with each listener in their own unique way. Just as no two gardens are alike, no two interpretations of the album will be the same.

Eliza reflects on the album, “This album has a really special place in my heart. I think the entire process of the album – from writing to recording to doing the visuals – has been such an incredible experience. I think as a songwriter, for myself, this album really pushed my boundaries and ideas. Every song feels like it has its place, and the lyrics are honest and genuine. I think this album really puts a spotlight on the band we want to be and the music that we love, and we couldn’t feel more united as friends and as a band. I hope that our fans old and new can enjoy the album in full and fall in love with it the way I have over the last 12 months of working on it!”

Kurt Skuse agrees, “It’s a space of personal reflection, a place where each listener can find solace, inspiration, or simply a moment of respite amidst life’s chaos. In the end, ‘Make It Feel Like The Garden’ is not just an album—it’s an invitation. An invitation to step into our world, to explore our vision of the garden, and to discover the beauty and wonder that lies within. It’s a journey of the senses, a symphony of emotions, and a testament to the power of music to transport us to places both real and imagined.”

To celebrate the release, they will be hitting the road for a national album tour performing the album for the very first time to audiences across Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane this August – presented by Handsome Tours. Tickets are on-sale here

The album has received massive support from triple j Home & Hosed, adds across triple j Unearthed, Rebel FM, Triple M Homegrown & Triple M Brisbane Weekend Nights, plus spotlighted across Pilerats, The Music, Backseat Mafia, Tone Deaf, and Life Without Andy. The trio have also been chosen as Apple Music’s UP NEXT feature artist for AU & NZ.
