Today, soul queen on the rise Ella Haber releases her debut EP CLAY out via Soul Has No Tempo. Produced by the always incredible Jordan Rakei, CLAY is a showcase of Ella’s undeniable talent that will soon be brought to life on her first headline tour in May.
Following the release of “Old Friends” and the title track “Clay”, the Sydney based multi-instrumentalist delivers an otherworldly listening experience painted with crooning jazz composition and real lyricism. With live instrumentation recorded in Old Paradise Audio in London beneath the expert eye of Rakei, the EP shines a light on Ella’s talents in composition and songwriting. An open book that explores themes of love, heartbreak and fighting for self-love in between, this body of work defies age and places Ella on the map as one to watch.
Opening the EP is her first release “Old Friends”, introducing Ella’s roar as she transforms each word into liquid gold melodies that roll off the tongue amid the tastes of effervescent jazz composition. Next up, “Responsibility” speaks to the pain of when heartbreak hits too close to home and betrayal costs both a lover and a friend. At first glance, the track shines with slick basslines, silky keys and funk-filled grooves, all the while veiling a story of anger and deceit beneath in Ella’s striking falsetto. Dropping into four minutes of heart-felt soul is “Behind Closed Eyes”. Teasing the listener with minimal instrumentation before sharp keys invite Ella’s moving vocals to take the floor, the track reflects on the beauty of dreams being free from anxiety and heartbreak, at least until the alarm calls.
The release’s title track “Clay” brings another taste of sophistication, oozing rhythms to get the body moving in an empowering ode to not giving in to a one-sided relationship. A fitting sign off to the introspective EP, “Puppet” closes out with a smooth, slowed-down slice of jazz that draws a parallel between love, drugs and a dose of desire thrown in the mix, ultimately speaking to conclusions of a relationship. The jazz prodigy’s irresistible debut is a quintessential portfolio of her undeniable arsenal of talent.
To celebrate the release, Ella has announced a headline tour featuring a handful of intimate shows throughout May. Kicking off next Thursday, May 2 at Oxford Art Gallery in Sydney, Ella will make her way to Brisbane’s Can You Keep a Secret on Sunday, May 12, mesmerising audiences with her unparalleled vocal prowess. The tour’s finale will hit Melbourne’s Penny Black on Thursday, May 16, concluding an impressive run of shows that are not to be missed.
Expanding her skill sets during the making of the release, including dipping in guitar lessons and production, the EP encapsulates the production ingenuity of Jordan Rakei alongside the products of Ella’s fierce independence and versatile creativity. Drawing from a network of musicians and industry friends, Ella’s musical repertoire has continued to grow cementing her status as one of Australia’s most exciting multi-skilled soul/jazz artists emerging today. An utterly refreshing voice that only leaves you craving more, it’s no surprise the young sing-songwriter has already been given the nod of approval from Giles Peterson and supported the likes of Lonnie Liston Smith, GODTET and Bin Juice.
Indulge in the powerful lyricism and soul-struck jazz in the modern age with Ella Haber’s stunning debut EP CLAY.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
