Emerging Western Sydney/Eora Nation-bred artist, ESHAAN hasn’t missed with the widely applauded release of his debut single ‘Back To The Future’, sophomore single ‘Simulation’ and most recently ‘Upside Down’ all of which began constructing a new world where his artistry sits. Now, the young South-Asian/Australian Queer artist returns with his debut EP ‘FIRST CONTACT’; a concept-driven storyline that traverses through his never-ending pursuit of perfection. Whilst asking the existential questions of control, if you have a say over your life and if your story has already been plotted out, ESHAAN effortlessly tells the story from his own perspective whilst simultaneously bringing forth the overarching theme of living life in a ‘Simulation’. As he takes the listener deeper into his psyche, ESHAAN ultimately immerses us in his unique and constantly developing electronic indie future-pop world which is bursting at the seam with bangers.

ESHAAN details the weight of his debut EP stating  –  “‘FIRST CONTACT’ holds so much gravity around it, as it not only represents my physical pursuit of perfection but also, everything that comes along on the journey. I’ve always had this idea of what “perfect” is, and ‘FIRST CONTACT’ is the initial endless search to find the perfect version of myself within a perfect world, only to then realise nothing can truly be how I imagined it. This EP is the product of that experience from start to finish.”  With the release of ESHAAN’s first three singles, it was clear that this young artist not only writes from a literal point of view but inputs layers of meanings and motifs within his music. “Alongside the surface level meaning, the EP stands for so much more with every track representing its own experience and its own defined significance, but when put into a larger picture, the track expands beyond its walls and forms a piece of a larger story. ”

Kicking off the EP, ‘First Contact’ blends electronic and orchestral stylings which immediately immerses the audience into the story with the introduction of the narrator. The audience is then immediately taken into ESHAAN’s soaring vocals as the track breaks into an electronic yet cinematic section, blending the two worlds as one.  Next up, ‘Another Dimension’ is a culmination of unique sounds that all play hand in hand. Using electrifying beats and combining them with ESHAAN’s already intoxicating electronic-pop stylings, a pacing synth and an exhilarating bassline contrast a delicate flute and catchy melodies, lyrically depicting the visualisation of the perfect version of himself. From here, ESHAAN takes us on a familiar path In ‘Back To The Future’. Nothing short of mesmerising, this track utilises striking synths, melodic pacing, and atmospheric layering, relishing in its own unique sci-fi pop world and submerging the listener into ESHAAN’s shoes as “perfect” is ripped away. Fourth on the project, ‘Upside Down’ takes ESHAAN’s complex sound and pairs it with his addictive vocals and introspective lyricism, which detail the emotions after ‘Back To The Future’ whilst sonically employing his unique soundscapes, as sliding synth-sirens wail throughout.

Taking a step back, the narrator returns as the listener is taken into ‘Transient’ detailing the ‘Simulation’ being close to completion, and the stability of the subject. Then the listener is taken into a euphoric and ambient section with booming synths and radio chatter that lead into the fifth track. ‘Space & Time’ is nothing short of a banger. Merging the young artist’s iconic electro-pop niche with his brooding lyricism, ESHAAN has created a future-bass track with a little more oomph, all of which is combined with addictive forward-pushing beats, recreating space travel but in sound. As the EP comes to an end, ‘Simulation’ is where ESHAAN’s pursuit for perfection is on its last leg. Drawing upon the literal characteristics of a ‘Simulation’, the track’s production is ever-changing. Contemporary synth glitches and ambient layering are combined with intoxicating hooks blurring the lines between futurism and familiar indie-pop stylings. Finally, as the EP embarks on its final leg, ‘Terminated’ moves back into the real world, with a jarring alarm that immediately re-introduces the narrator declaring that the ‘Simulation’ has failed, and as a heartbeat oscillates, ESHAAN leaves us at a cliffhanger leaving us to question, what’s next?

ESHAAN has already been widely praised from the get-go of his career, with support coming in from Spotify, Apple Music, triple j, triple j Unearthed, JOY 94.9, RTR, Energy Groove, Tone Deaf, Music Feeds, SNIFFERS, FROOTY, The Daily Telegraph, Ones To Watch, AAA Backstage, Aus Music Scene, Happy Mag, Acid Stag, amongst many more. ESHAAN also continues to shine on the live scene having excelled in his debut live performance at Sydney’s Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras 2022 alongside a multitude of queer talent, Live Nation’s Ones To Watch showcase as part of SOUND WEST, Breaking Sound at Oxford Art Factory and most recently opening for Yen Strange at Goodspace.

Be sure to keep a close eye on ESHAAN as this bright young artist has more up his sleeves with vast new worlds to explore.
