“There’s something in the water down under. Aussie newcomers KAYEX clearly have been sippin’ that water because they are delivering us hot fire.” – EDM.com (USA)
“Blending elements of groove, funk, disco and electro in a way that we haven’t seen since the halcyon days of Ed Banger Records, there’s a lot to love about their sound.” – PileRats

Electronic duo Kayex has stepped up to the plate with their debut EP “Tempus In LA” and has knocked it into the stratosphere with their catchy pop hooks and out of this world production. Following the excitement around the release of the lead single from the EP ‘Tempus III: Ready, Go’, “Tempus In LA” is bound to place the Perth duo firmly on the path to be one of Australia’s most interesting Electronic exports.

“Tempus in LA” tells a story and is heavily inspired by KAYEX’s time spent in LA. With beats catchy enough to reel you in, their first single on the EP “Electric Fire” is described to be the spark that motivated the electronic due to finish the EP and move to LA for a bit. Their second song “I’m Not In Love” was recorded on their iPhone, telling a story about Tom being reminded of being 16 and bumping into his crush at a house party. Despite it being a sad song about not being in love, their blend of funk and groove still follows throughout the whole EP as their electric energy does not slow down.
An absolute gun of a track, and lead single ‘Tempus III: Ready, Go’ employs a heavy bass beat to get listeners grooving. The duo explain that the track was inspired by long drives and listening to the local radio,
“We noticed so much of the music on the radio was bass heavy which is where it all started for us with “MyFriends”… so we decided to wind it back and make an LA flavoured version with a few different twists and turns.”
Their EP concludes with the song “How Far Would You Go” that started off as Tom jokingly mimicking Sting, but ended up liking the way it sounded against the music. Almost not making the cut, the song is to be described as having a special place in their hearts and a reminder of the time the duo spent hanging out and having fun in LA.
This EP follows up their single released earlier this year, the timelessly groovy “Warrior Games”. Co-written and produced by Lionel Towers (Gypsy & The Cat), and mastered by Mike Marsh (Calvin Harris, Chemical Brothers), “Warrior Games” was a hit with audiences as Kayex hit the road in support of Crooked Colours in May and June.
The single was accompanied by a colourful and quirky new music video, the vintage 80’s aesthetic of which perfectly complemented the track’s throwback sonics.

From school friends in Perth, to studio partners in Sydney, KAYEX’s members Palassi Kailis and Tom Derickx combine both electronic samples and live instrumentation in a way that speaks to the broadening tastes of today’s pop scene.
The duo debuted their live show at Sydney’s Listen Out Festival, and in late 2018 won the triple j Unearthed competition that allowed them to perform at Sydney’s Field Day Festival on New Year’s Day 2019. They also supported SG Lewis on his national Australian tour in 2018, and Crooked Colours on their national Australian tour.
Drawing from inspirations such as Daft Punk, Kanye West and Chance The Rapper, there is no doubt that KAYEX will continue to push boundaries in 2019.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
