“A refreshing & super inviting band, this is colour, this is chaos, and this is Fan Girl” – Tara Kumar – BBC1 Future Artists with Jack Saunders
“Fan Girl have mastered all of our favourite early 2000s tricks” – Life Without Andy
“Naarm/Melbourne band Fan Girl is a chaotic thread intertwining with the thundering guitars and the sardonic delivery of singer Noah Harris” – Backseat Mafia
Building on the momentum from their recent single “the last one”, visceral alternative four-piece Fan Girl today reveal “little pig”, the second track from their forthcoming EP, real or staged which the band are excited to announce will drop Thursday 5 September via AWAL Recordings.
“little pig” embodies Fan Girl’s electrifying energy and knack for addictive riffs, marking a swirling, bombastic addition to real or staged. Packed with punchy tempo shifts, brash guitars and sprawling sampled strings, all layered beneath Noah Harris’ playful vocals, the track delves into the feeling of never being able to get enough, capturing the emotion of being both intoxicatingly surrounded and completely isolated.
Fan Girl on “little pig”: “The track came together almost instantly. Dropped in our laps, like an otherwise unwanted bag of potatoes. And we were so ready to make some chippies. With “little pig”, we just wanted to make something sprawling, wonky and grand. Samples, strings, phasers, double drums. The full buffet.
Once we had wrapped up tracking at our studio, we sent it off to Oli Barton-Wood (Nilüfer Yanya, Shame, Do Nothing) in London, who added his secret mixing potion to the bubbling cauldron, before being delivered to mastering engineer Felix Davis (Porridge Radio, Folly Group, The Murder Capital) for the final mastering garnish. Bon Appetit my friends.”
“little pig” is accompanied by an energetic, hypnotic and slightly discomforting video clip, filmed and directed by Francesca Napier, and co-directed by Luke Thomas. “This unhinged DIY masterpiece follows a well dressed little pig on a semi-lucid journey through the bustling Melbourne city centre, as he dances his way through crowds, traverses the darkest corners of the city, and spirals into despair – brought on by both the ever-present oppressive late stage capitalism, and a bad hamburger. The video swirls and spins, going back and forth in a fever dream, blurring the lines of reality, and begging the question of what is real or staged.” says the band.
Fan Girl are set to embark on a run of headline dates throughout July in celebration of the new single, lighting up stages in Melbourne (twice!), Adelaid
