Following the warmly received release of ‘I Don’t Like Me’, Sydney-based punk quartet FANGZ have returned with a massive run of tour dates and their unrelenting new single ‘Won’t Be Me’ – produced by Stevie Knight (Yours Truly, Stand Atlantic, The Dead Love), and mixed by James Paul Wisner (Paramore, Underoath).
Opening with palm-muted guitars and the boundless vocals of frontman Joshua Cottreau, ‘Won’t Be Me’ heaves into a thunderous concoction of emphatic drums and spirited bass, while stratums of guitars soar vehemently above the mix. Four-on-the-floor rhythms permeate the verses before launching into a fiery half-time chorus, bristling with contagious melodies and dynamic hooks. Cathartic alterations heighten the arrangement before its poignant climax.
“’Won’t Be Me’ is about staying in a relationship with someone you love even though it seems destined to fail,” Cottreau comments. “It follows the thought process and battle of knowing when to let go of the person you care for. I guess it’s a breakup song and a love song at the same time.”
To celebrate the release, FANGZ will be embarking on a 20-date national headline tour, including an appearance at Halloween Hysteria and multiple performances in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and numerous regional towns. This continues on from the band’s sold-out ‘Self Medicate’ tour in early 2021, where they made appearances throughout NSW, ACT, VIC and QLD.
Previous single ‘I Don’t Like Me’ was heavily supported by the likes of Spotify and Apple Music, along with Australian radio stations triple j, triple j Unearthed, Triple M, The Faction, SYN FM, 4ZZZ, 2SER, Radio Adelaide, Three D Radio, Edge Radio, and New Zealand stations Crescendo Radio, KICK FM, The Generator and Radio One 91FM.
The single also received online praise from NME, Blunt Magazine, The AU Review, HEAVY Mag, Rawing In The Pit, GC Live, Punktuation, Black of Hearts, Rock Lives Here, LivewireAU, Guitar World, Last Day Deaf, Underground N Proud (POR), Indie Criollo (ECU) and Roadie Metal (BRA).
In the coming weeks FANGZ will reveal an accompanying video for ‘Won’t Be Me’.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
