Figurehead’s youth belies the subversive protest lyrics of the band’s latest single; their eulogy to the beloved but now defunct 106 Bus.
For years, Uni students and school girls and boys have hopped on and off the 106 bus as it travelled the main Perth highway (Canning Hwy) to rock venue, The Raffles,
in Fremantle. Coincidently this is the very same highway that AC/DC aptly named the “Highway to Hell.” The service saw students forge friendships, fall in love, and make mortal enemies.

But who could have imagined the outcry – evidenced in a public Facebook page – when, without ceremony, the service was cancelled. Thus pissing off enough people to protest and garner media and political attention.
In the words of this infectious tune, “The 106 doesn’t come any longer, I don’t quite get how you could take me from her.”
“We’ve been sitting on this track for a while and it’s become a favorite at our live shows, so we decide after many requests to release it just ahead of our second EP.
We checked in to Rada Studio last week with producer Matt Geo (Abbe May, San Cisco, Birds of Tokyo) and knocked it out in a day and we are stoked with how it came out.” – Matt Murphy (Lead vocals and guitar)

The two-time WAM Song of the Year nominees are poised to release their second EP within a few weeks, giving us this rocking teaser to sing along to in the meantime. “106” follows the previous single’s “Suits” and “Teacher’s Pet”, which will be on the forthcoming EP.
What Declan Byrne from triple j’s Home & Hosed said about “Suits” – “You guys have got your shit together.“ Figurehead are: Matt Murphy (Lead vocals and guitar); Josh Gallagher (Guitar); Ross Mace (Bass); and Chet Morgan (Drums and vocals).
