ARIA-award winning songwriting duo, Flight Facilities, today unveil the latest chapter in their famed Decade Mixes with a brand new, long-awaited 2012-2022 episode, available to stream online.

As premiered on Triple J Mix Up over the weekend, the pair’s latest triumph spans an hour of historic events and musical influences that included the world’s introduction to the likes of Mac Miller,  Billie Eilish and Disclosure, alongside AU/NZ’s own music royalty in Flume, Lorde and Dom Dolla. Dancing further down the 2010’s memory lane, as is tradition the mix also arrives with a full-length visualizer giving life to the pop culture moments they reminisce in-between. As always, Jimmy Lyell and Hugo Gruzman have uploaded the newest volume to their Flight Deck app, for it to join their other Decade Mixes and other hugely-requested edits, mixtapes, hidden secrets, and unofficial remixes that fans hear first.

On Flight Facilities’ 2012-2012 Decade Mix, Hugo says: 

“It was a decade best summed up by podcasts, cancel culture, fake news and memeing our way through tragedy and triumph. But was 2012-2022 any crazier than eras past, or was it that the prevalence of social media put major international events on our digital doorsteps? A Hollywood star becoming the leader of the free world? Bizarre… but it wasn’t the first time. 

Obscure global events just felt more tangible than ever, and we were all finally able to have our say. Communication with pop stars and major companies was instantaneous, and stardom was diluted by the ability for strangers to become a viral sensation overnight. With the advance of accessible technology came the explosion of bedroom producers like Flume, who would dictate the direction and popularity of an entire genre.

At a glance, many could argue it was the death of originality in pop culture, with covers, remixes, sequels, prequels and remakes dominating the mainstream. The recent emergence of AI will either give those creative minds the resources to forge a new path into 2032, or accelerate us into repetition.”

Most recently, Flight Facilities have continued to fly high between the studio, the DJ booth and the live stage. After wrapping up appearances at prestigious festivals like Coachella in America earlier this year, the duo completed a DJ run across Europe.
