Sydney’s FLOWERTRUCK have today unveiled the follow-up clip to their latest release ‘Pretending’, which has been added to rotation across Fbi and 2SER, plus received airplay across triple j, triple j Unearthed, and 4ZZZ and praise from NME and Music Feeds.
The clip, which premiered on Backseat Mafia, is the band’s very first clip that is entirely DIY, spending the last few months deep in a Youtube tutorial hole filled with animations and editing.
Discussing the clip, “You know how – every now and then – your social media decides to spit out a random photo of your ex, or an old friend that maybe you didn’t want to be reminded of? It’s always feels like a bit of a cruel joke, veiled as a happy memory, when more often not it’s a memory that we’d rather forget.
We wanted to create a music video which puts the band inside some of these quintessential “social media” moments – from funny 360 camera mishaps to those painful carpool karaoke videos – moments that now feel like the happiness has been a little drained out of, and now we’re just pretending.
Shooting the video came together all in one afternoon in locations around Charles’ house down the coast in Scarborough. It was a total run and gun operation. We got our hands on a 360 camera, the same ones that have been making all of those ridiculous holiday TikToks, and just hit record.
That thing went everywhere. We had it duct taped to drum stands, we slapped it on a hills hoist and on to the hood of David’s cars. For the opening shot, Charles ran through the local bottle-o (his old workplace) with the camera shoved in his mouth. You’ve never seen us from these angles before. And we’re not sure if you wanted to but… here it is.”
Recorded in the freshly constructed studio space on Sydney’s South Coast (Stranded Studios),‘Pretending’ was engineered and mixed thanks to the efforts of long-time FLOWERTRUCK collaborators Bowen Shakallis and John Lee (The Stroppies, Laura Jean).
The latest offering is off their newly announced forthcoming album Partly Cloudy out September 2, which also features previous releases ‘Crying Shame’ and ‘Sing Along To Your Life’.
Five years in the making, Sydney / Illawarra garage-pop outfit FLOWERTRUCK return to our stereos with their sophomore album Partly Cloudy – the long-awaited sister record to their 2018 debut Mostly Sunny which was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize.
In 2020, with a lightning bolt of new life in the band (including the joining of guitarist David Gauci), a fresh-faced FLOWERTRUCK came back together to begin new recordings in a makeshift studio in Stanwell Park. And from there Partly Cloudy began to form.
The acclaimed four-piece have dedicated their twenties to creating songs of love, loss and overdue rent – and this record is a wax seal on FLOWERTRUCK’s 8-year-long efforts inside Sydney’s – and Australia’s – independent rock scene.
Partly Cloudy is a rumination on the last half-decade spent in seedy clubs, festival stages, Tiger Air terminals, ramshackle studios, and newly formed friendships. It’s a loving and painful tribute to the sacrifices-turned-to-delights from a youth spent pursuing music.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
