French Duo The Blaze Unveil Debut EP ‘Territory’ – Out Today
In the past year, one of the electronic scene’s most talented duos to surface is undoubtedly The Blaze. Offering sublime production and poignant self-directed videos, the French duo now unveil their highly anticipated, debut EP Territory via Animal63.
A stunning six tracks, Territory is endless layers of compelling beats and affective melodies. The opening “Prelude” directs us into previously heard, ethereal tracks “Territory” and “Virile”, while a meditative “Interlude” lays groundwork for the upbeat “Juvenile”. The EP concludes with “Sparks and Ashes” as heavy tempos make way for a grand finish with luminous vocals offering closure and clarity. A seamless body of work, Territory is executed in a clever fashion – intimate and vulnerable, yet each track is more liberating than the last.
Hailing from France, the electronic duo (cousins Jonathan and Guillaume Alric) exploded onto the scene in 2016, when single “Virile” debuted via Bromance Records. “Virile”, along with its self-directed video, took the UK by storm hitting over 1.2 million views on YouTube and winning Best Pop Alternative Video at the UK Video Music Awards. The follow up single “Territory” (also at 1.2 million views) carried the momentum, premiering on Fader and receiving global acclaim from outlets such as i-D, Gorilla vs Bear, NOWNESS, BBC Radio and The Guardian UK.
In a saturated genre, the duo’s raw and ambiguous sound puts them in a league of their own, allowing them to carve their own boundaries of originality and vision. Their production & director talents allow an acute portrayal of their music through videos that have helped amass an audience of industry and fans alike.
The Blaze have a big 2017 planned with even larger tour news on the way. In the meantime, check out their infectious debut offering Territory and educate yourself on one of France’s most talented duos.
