GAMBA

“Leave The Boy Behind” Out Tomorrow

– Premiere

Gamba is a musical project that began in late 2014. At its core is lead singer Tessa S, the primary songwriter, and her four piece band, including permanent members Joe Simich and Kim Thair. After a year and a half of writing, rehearsing and playing tiny open mics in Perth, Gamba recorded their first five track release with the help of WAM award winning producer Ma4 Gio. Taking the various musical influences of Fleetwood Mac, Corrine Bailey Rae, Oasis and countless others, they moulded their first EP – a sonic artwork of love, loss, resentment, discontentment and rebirth.

Their debut single, “Leave The Boy Behind” was re-written and produced many times before it ended up at Rada Studios in early 2016. Inspired by an awkward and painful separation and written on a tear-stained afternoon, it morphed into an upbeat celebration harking back to pop and funk records of childhood. It applauds irresponsibility and immaturity in its pure harmonised escapism.

“‘Leave The Boy Behind’ revels in the frustration of not letting go of someone, despite the consequences or personal ramifications, and celebrates the weakness of toxic attraction” says songwriter Tessa on the creaCon of the track.

“Leave The Boy Behind” was recorded at Rada Studios, Western Australia, engineered and produced by MaQ Gio, and mastered by King Willy Sound.

With a stream of shows with local ouVits Soulin’ Wild, Afro Chameleon and The Desert Sonnes planned and a music video to be released at the end of the year, 2017 looks to be a promising year for the fledgling project.
