I KISSED A GIRL

Like a cloud of fairy floss billowing to life in musical form, the brand new single I Kissed A Girl out today from Australian DJ and producer extraordinaire GEM is a welcome and blissed-out reimagining of American popstar Katy Perry’s 2008 debut single. And accompanying this special edition Pride track will be an unforgettable live Aussie Pride launch event this Friday 24 February in Sydney, followed by performances at Miami Beach Pride (Miami), Capitol Pride (Washington) and Los Angeles Pride (LA), amongst other US festivals and tour dates spanning the first half of 2023.
Coinciding with GEM’s visit down under from L.A. this week for Mardi Gras, I Kissed A Girl is a shimmering, sensuous addition to GEM’s burgeoning repertoire. A slick and chilled disco-pop electro flip of Katy Perry’s original, GEM’s reimagining readily showcases the talented Aussie export’s flair for weaving electronic-indie-pop masterpieces, while also lovingly flying the flag for LGBTQIA+ pride. “I am really attached to this special edition Pride release,” shares GEM of her brand new single. “I wanted to take it away from the pop-rock angst filled original and produce a softer, sexy disco I Kissed A Girl. The original was such an important moment because it’s largely considered as the beginning of LGBT awareness in pop music. I love that this song sparked countless stories of people opening their eyes to their own sexual desires. I also love that the conversation has deepened so much since then and we don’t need to discuss bisexuality in such an apprehensive way, which was a big part of my own desire to do a softer, more comfortable, inviting version.”

Produced by GEM and Cheap Limoscene, mixed by Rod McCormack and mastered by Dale Becker, I Kissed A Girl will also be officially launched in perfect fashion later this week, with GEM flying to her home country to perform her luminous new track on the eve of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade in Surry Hills for her I Kissed A Girl Pink Party this Friday 24 February. A track made by women for women, GEM’s version of I Kissed A Girl celebrates all things love, in all its thrilling, humbling and unique facets, and will undeniably make you effortlessly weak at the knees.
A creative trailblazer who is making her mark on the international scene, while also paving the way for fellow Australians, GEM’s musical star has been rapidly on the rise over the years, previously finding herself named in the Top 5 global female music producers by Showbiz Magazine. Currently based between Los Angeles and Australia, GEM has survived and thrived in a scene towered over by American and European artists, with two nominations at the IMAs, for Best Album (Electronic) and Producer Of The Year, a #2 album on the Australian iTunes Electronic Chart for her 2019 debut album The 2070s, and marking one of only six producers tapped globally to participate in the prestigious Grammy NEXT program.
Releasing her latest EP Healing Feelings in 2022, GEM continues to explore the boundless depths of her warm, authentic and captivating sonic soul, with 2023 already firmly shaping up to be the biggest and brightest yet for this talented Aussie artist. Whether you can catch the latest chapter for GEM this week live in action in Sydney or just melt into listening to her new track throughout your day, I Kissed A Girl is the serene disco anthem your 2023 has been waiting for.
I Kissed A Girl is out today, Wednesday February 22.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
