Eora/Sydney artist Gena Stone arrives with her debut EP Screaming Loving out now via Community Music, alongside the announcement of a full-band EP launch at Eveleigh Bandroom in Eora / Sydney on Dec 20. LISTEN HERE + RSVP HERE.
A culmination of five tracks developed over the last few years, Screaming Loving balances Gena’s own personal introspection with astute observations of the outside world, shaped within a sonic sphere of textured guitars, smooth vocals, and shimmering keys. Initially conceived during her studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Gena Stone collaborated with close friend and producer Ethan Reginato (Holly Hebe, Gang of Youths, Meg Mac) to bring the EP to fruition, drawing upon the determination and vulnerability it takes to leap into the unknown.
“Like many people, I questioned whether I should pursue music – all the ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ that come with chasing a creative path,” Gena reveals. “But nothing brings me as much excitement and happiness as making music, and having the chance to share a full body of work feels like a huge milestone. I wrote and produced the first version of most of these songs alone, and I’ve had the joy of collaborating with friends to bring them to life. Across five tracks, we explore a lot – lyrically, musically, and genre-wise – but to me, they all feel like they belong together.”
Today’s focus single, ‘Expectations’, is an “anti-love song” as Gena describes it. Inspired by assured songwriting voices like Clairo, Stella Donnelly and Lily Allen, and written for the moments where you find yourself doubting your worth, Gena shares, “It’s a playful and light-hearted reminder that if someone makes you feel like sh*t, you very much have the power to walk away and not put up with it – because that doesn’t meet your expectations.”
‘Expectations’ also arrives with a new music video, directed and edited by Nathan Rathsam (dust, The Belair Lip Bombs, Gazal). Wanting to explore the concept of an “anti-expectations” video, Gena shares, “we bounced creative ideas around, and soon I was driving to pick up $5 vintage hand puppets from Facebook Marketplace while Nathan was asking every man and their dog for a typewriter we could borrow. On a very hot day, with a skeleton crew (me, Nathan, and my boyfriend Dallas), we ran around Sydney shooting the video. We honestly had the best time, it was so fun being silly and building this narrative that fits the song so well.”
Debuting in 2023 with ‘Pistachio’, and now bringing on this bold chapter of new music throughout 2025, Gena Stone has introduced herself as a striking new voice in Sydney’s alt-pop scene. The release of pulsing single ‘Silhouette‘ – launched with her her biggest headline performance to date at Enmore’s Trocadero Room – and follow up singles ‘Blame Saturn‘ and ‘Grown’, have garnered support from the likes of triple j and Unearthed, NME, Junkee, fbi.radio, 2SER, 4ZZZ and more, plus key DSP playlisting support including Spotify’s Fresh Finds AU & NZ, Tapestry and Hits Different, and Apple Music’s New Music Daily, New In Pop, Indie Pop, and New In Alternative.
As captivating on stage as on record, Gena Stone’s live shows shift between ethereal textures and vibrant, dynamic moments – balancing emotional depth with irresistible energy that invites the crowd in. She recently performed at the iconic King Street Crawl, and has traversed the Sydney scene playing shows at The Chippo Hotel, Lazybones Lounge, The Midnight Special, Palomino Lounge, and more. Her sold-out debut headline at Petersham Bowling Club marked a key milestone, as did her performance at the inaugural SXSW Sydney. On December 20, Gena – along with her full band – will launch Screaming Loving at the new Eveleigh Bandroom in Eora / Sydney, with support from Allerdyce. Details BELOW.

AMNPLIFY – DB

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
