The region that brought us Amy Shark, Fisher and Paces is back at BIGSOUND, Thursday 5 September, for the fourth dedicated Gold Coast Showcase featuring live action from the coolest indie kids in the country, IVEY, electro-soul siren, DVNA, and scuzzy surf-rockers, Radolescent.

Serving up some of the hottest new Gold Coast acts to BIGSOUND movers and shakers since 2016, the Gold Coast Showcase has become a must-see event with previous acts picking up major tour supports, label interest, festival slots and more.

Bluesfest’s Rusty Thorpe said, “The Gold Coast is a hotbed of talent right now and I reckon to see some of the best emerging talent from this region strut their stuff in the one showcase is invaluable for any serious booker, media or agent.”

IVEY first drew the national spotlight as teens in Triple J’s Unearthed competition and have quickly grown to selling out home shows, supporting the likes of Cub Sport and racking up millions of views on YouTube as the first ever winners of the Extra Support Acts competition with 5SOS.

“As we’ve all grown up on the Gold Coast, we’re very proud to be representing our home town at BIGSOUND again this year,” said Lachlan McGuffie, IVEY guitarist and vocalist.

“The 2017 showcase was such a great experience. We’re excited to be playing again and see what this year will bring!”

Moving well beyond her bedroom production days, DVNA is making her BIGSOUND debut off the back of successful electro-soul singles, Girl On The Move and Looking Like A Snack and a finalist nod at this year’s Gold Coast Music Awards.

Add to the mix Radolescent, who broke out of Gold Coast’s domestic noise complaint circuit last year with their loud, scream-along tunes and live show that’ll “blow your head off and leave you scraping ya brains off the floor” and you have yourself one helluva BIGSOUND showcase.

The 2019 Gold Coast Showcase is curated by Gold Coast Music Awards and is just one of the many exciting initiatives of the City of Gold Coast’s Music Action Plan 2021.

“Gold Coast is known around the world as a great place to share good times and the 13 million people who visit us each year are increasingly attracted to our live music scene,” said Mayor Tom Tate.

“Both visitors and our residents love our venues and the stream of brilliant local artists who bring the Gold Coast cultural scene alive. I am thrilled that some of our emerging talent will  take part in BIGSOUND 2019 where they will get to rub shoulders with key music industry figures from around Australia and the world.”

“Gold Coast is committed to helping develop sustainable careers for our musicians and I really appreciate BIGSOUND bringing us together for this opportunity.”

IVEY
The ‘coolest teenagers in the country’ according to triple j, dreamy, Gold Coast indie pop band, Ivey first drew the national spotlight through triple j’s Unearthed High Competition in 2015. Surpassing their teenage goal of playing music for fun, Ivey already have two EPs, regular triple j play, support spots with Confidence Man, Montaigne, Middle Kids and Cub Sport, sold out home shows and a winning spot on this year’s Drop Festival under their belts.

DVNA
DVNA, a colourful, bold and intriguing project born within the depths of a Gold Coast bedroom in early 2017. Taking control of her own production, it allows her the artistic freedom to truly express herself, creating a warm fusion between new age soul and electronica, referencing Anderson .Paak and Syd. Since releasing of her two singles, Girl On The Move (500,000+ Spotify streams) and Looking Like A Snack (450,000 Spotify streams), DVNA has been turning heads all around the country with her smooth and sultry vocals. She supported the likes of Alice Ivy, Kira Puru and performed at various music festivals including Bleach Festival and Arcadia. She was a finalist for the triple j Unearthed DMAs remix competition.

Radolescent
Radolescent broke out of Gold Coast’s domestic noise complaint circuit last year dishing loud, scuzzy surf-rock with a side of ‘don’t give a toss’ attitude. Their debut album ‘Prehab’ is stacked with scream-along tunes accompanied by a live show that’ll blow your head off and leave you scraping ya brains off the floor! Kicking around the Gold Coast since 2014, Radolescent are a bunch of mates who started out playing music at their friend’s house and never stopped. The sound of the slacker is evident in Radolescent’s music, but their live shows are anything but. It was only a matter of time before they broke out of the domestic noise complaint circuit and into pubs and clubs, which has since included touring alongside C.O.F.F.I.N and the inaugural Halloween Hysteria in 2018.
