Young Melbourne musician, Grace Robinson, announces the release of a new single, ‘Coward’, on the 7th of July. The follow up to her debut mini-album, ‘With Fire’, released last year to a sold out crowd at The Spotted Mallard, Grace will release the new single live in the main band room at The Gasometer alongside Bailey Judd and Tali Mahoney.
After the launch of her debut release, Grace fell into music hibernation to pursue her year twelve studies. Marking her return, ‘Coward’ was recorded with Roger Bergodaz at Union Street Studios in Brunswick, with a seven piece band constructed from Melbourne musicians Grace went to high school with. The song, funky with a hint of sass, embodies the old school soul that Grace is known for, but with a twist of the modern pop scene. ‘Coward’ is a soulful song, encouraging self-confidence and self-trust, and realizing that sometimes what people say about you, really says more about them.
Grace recorded her mini-album ‘With Fire‘ in Portland Oregon in November of 2016, whilst she was also attending high school in the area. With producer Adam Selzer of Type Foundry Studios, she recorded six songs before coming back to Melbourne to launch it at The Spotted Mallard in early August. She worked with the elite musicians of Portland; Luke Yditsie (Blind Pilots), Jon Neufield, Ben Nugent and Aliah Farrah (M.ward) and shared a recording space with those such as ‘Snow Patrol’ and ‘She and Him’.

Grace has been singing and writing songs since she was 8, when she first learnt piano. She was lucky enough to find herself immersed in the Melbourne song-writing community from a young age. After workshopping with Ben Salter and Helen Gosling in 2015, Grace then developed her childhood dream into something more, and began planning her trip to USA for 2016. Her captivating combination of jazz and blues mixed with pop influences create a distinctive sound, complimented by her powerful vocals. With Influences varying between Missy Higgins, Lake Street Dive, Melody Pool and Ella Fitzgerald and her songwriting inspired by the Indigo Girls and Ainslie Wills, Grace’s songs of love, loss and longing are relatable to any passing listener.
Grace’s songs depict maturity beyond her 18 years. With the release of her first album at the age of 16, Grace has established herself as a young but powerful voice in the Melbourne music scene, she released the title track single from the album, ‘With Fire’, which was in the Triple J “roots” rankings for 3 weeks last year.
