Leading Australian Distributor GYROstream ventures into new territory, adding GYROrecords, a premium independent label, to its ranks with first signing, Yb. , announced today.
GYROrecords puts the full force of the GYROstream distribution, A&R, GYROdigital and GYROpr machine behind key artists the team are passionate about, with all pillars working together to give each project ‘everything they’ve got’.
GYROstream Co-Founder and GYROrecords Label Manager Viv Mellish says the addition of GYROrecords is a natural evolution for the company. “We’ve been offering flexible add-on label services to GYROstream distributed artists since we started in 2018, and to bring the entire team together through GYROrecords to cohesively rally around artists we care deeply about is an exciting new way of working for our team.”
GYROstream A&R and Streaming Partnerships Manager Benjamin James says the choice to bring on Yb. as the initial GYROrecords artist was an easy one. “Yb. is a brilliant artist with a pure soul that has created a powerful EP,” he says. “It’s incredibly satisfying to be able to enter into a partnership that reflects both our core values as a business and his as an artist.”

On Thursday, Yb. released evocative new single ‘Change Your Mind’ which received a first play on triple j’s Home & Hosed landed the Brisbane artist the cover of Spotify’s ‘come thru’ as well as a spot on New Music Friday AU/NZ, The Local List and Indie Arrivals. The Meanjin artist was also recently handpicked by triple j Unearthed to open the inaugural THIS THAT Sandstone Point, just finished touring with San Cisco, soared past 4 million catalogue streams, penned a bookings deal with UndrCTRL and landed two nominations at this year’s Queensland Music Awards.
Yb. says he’s excited to work closer with the GYRO team. “The GYROstream team are my family! Working with them has and always will be incredibly streamlined. They really do everything they can to make you feel at home. I am over the moon about the content in this EP! Some of these songs have been sitting in storage for about a year now, so it’s beyond exciting to show everyone what I’ve been working on!”
