Australian alt-dance collective Haiku Hands (Claire Nakazawa, Beatrice Lewis and Mie Nakazawa) have dropped a deluxe version of their acclaimed sophomore album, Pleasure Beast via Spinning Top Records today!

“Our deluxe version of Pleasure Beast is a heightened sensory trip – same taste, different texture. We worked with artists we love from around the world to expand the sonic palette of the OG record – familiar and new, like tasting neon and velvet in the same bite. Enjoy your life!” say Haiku Hands.

The deluxe edition includes 5 new bonus tracks, including recent offerings “Ma Ruler” (Bad Sounds Remix), the dance-ready “Kicks” and a new remix of “Geddit” with LA post-punk rockers Sextile adding their magic spice to Haiku Hands’ animated track out today. “We wanted to go with an M.I.A. meets Baltimore club sound for this one. Massive tune.” Sextile say.

To celebrate the Deluxe release, Haiku Hands will be bringing their invigorating and electrifying live performance to headline shows across the country with dates in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane slated for December 2024. A second Sydney show was added due to demand, and both dates in the city are now sold out. Anyone wanting to catch the eclectic trio in Melbourne and Brisbane are encouraged to act quick! Get your tickets now at haikuhands.com.au

An electro-pop-rap manifesto, Pleasure Beast, which dropped in December 2023, is fast approaching its one-year anniversary. The exuberant album was nominated for an AIR award for Best Independent Electronic/Dance Album of 2024 and was described “as smart as it is fun… iconoclastic and unskippable”. The record followed the breakout success of “Not About You” and Haiku Hands’ 2020 self-titled, AIR-Award nominated debut, which received the stamp of approval from the likes of NME, Rolling Stone, DIY, Paste and British Vogue, who described the trio’s unique sound and chaotic live show as part Scissor Sisters, Azealia Banks, Björk and Warhol.

Pleasure Beast is a sonic exploration of Haiku Hands’ minds, life experiences, energies and beast modes – sometimes there is joy, and sometimes there is mayhem. A dynamic and assertive artistic statement that embraces the sonic and visual edges of The Knife and the punk ethos of Le Tigre, Pleasure Beast is the incarnation of simple creatures with simple pleasures seeking peace in a world that wants to separate and divide. It’s the sound of umami at a rave. It’s taking to a sweaty and harmonious festival dancefloor as a public service. The political act of writing and performing in the first place. It’s the forbidden bitter fruit that dares you to be human. A grab-bag of sonic textures and lyrical bite fighting against capitalist vampires and numbing algorithmic vibes, desiring a decent society and sexy bread, and dancing the night away under a glowstick sun. And now the album is made even more indulgent, and enticing, with Pleasure Beast Deluxe out today.

Known far and wide for their sweaty and spirited live sets, Haiku Hands have toured across Australia, Europe, the UK and the US. They’ve won the hearts of festival crowds at the likes of Sydney World Pride, Wide Awake, Splendour in the Grass and 2023’s Governor’s Ball in NYC, among others. The lively trio just wrapped a string of dates supporting San Cisco on their national album tour and performed alongside The Presets at Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens last week. Haiku Hands will bring their wild choreography and electronic sounds to their own headline shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane on the Club Deluxe Pleasure Beast Tour throughout December 2024. Get your tickets now at haikuhands.com.au.
