“One minute they’re throwing out dirty electronics of a PC Music ilk, then in seconds they’re whipping out unashamed choreographed dance moves, all with the energy and gang mentality of Odd Future or Brockhampton.” – DIY MAG
“2 words. F*CK YES” – TRIPLE J
“..it’s almost incomprehensible to witness a live show from a new act that can be this electrifying, memorable and bloody fun.” – NME

Fresh off stirring up dancefloors across Australia at Listen Out and ahead of supporting iconic UK act Bloc Party, Australia’s favourite collective Haiku Hands today celebrate the announcement of their debut national headline tour next February by sharing new collaborative single ‘Squat’. A team up with good friends and producers/multi- instrumentalists True Vibenation.‘Squat’ follows on from the high energy dance-ready production of ‘Jupiter’ and ‘Not About You’ and continues to champion the spirit of community and collaboration which lie at the heart of the Haiku Hands manifesto.
On the track, True Vibenation said:
“Squat is an instruction manual for people who are too self-conscious, but hidden inside them is an ability to tear up the dancefloor. It’s about squatting, letting go of any anxieties and getting the fuck down!” – TRUE VIBENATION
.
Born from a Sydney warehouse party where True Vibenation’s Vuli was DJing an early sketch of the track, Haiku saw the infectious potential of‘ Squat’, which explodes with a huge and undeniable dance rhythm. Negotiating a deal to collaborate in the boardroom (read: kick on at Haiku’s house), the agreement was signed on the back of an art print by Mie Nakazawa stating “we will do squat together and make the world get low!”
The track follows ‘Jupiter’ and ‘Not About You’ which collectively have amassed over two million streams.‘Not About You’ won the attention of renowned American choreographer Brian Friedman (Justin Bieber, Beyoncé, Rhianna and Prince) which saw the So You Think You Can Dance judge feature ‘Not About You’ in his series of choreography videos which has notched up over 800,000 views.‘Jupiter’ was also included on Matt Wilkinson from Beats 1 ‘Best Songs of the 2018 So Far’ list and has received airplay on BBC1 and Radio X.
In addition to their mind-blowing shows at The Great Escape in May earlier this year, Haiku Hands have played every festival worth its salt in Australia including Splendour In The Grass, St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival, Groovin The Moo, Panama Festival, Listen Out and more, as well as supporting Flight Facilities on their Nationwide tour.
Based across Melbourne and Sydney, the core of Haiku Hands is Claire Nakazawa, Beatrice Lewis and Mie Nakazawa. Together, they curate, perform and work as a collective of artists, engaging and exploring social norms with their lyrical and visual content. Their influences range from hip hop to pop, electronic to dance and everything beyond.
