Hayley Jensen’s brand new album, Turning Up The Dial, landed at #2 on the iTunes Country Albums chart this morning and is out now through Social Family Records, available instore and online.  The 8 tracker was recorded in the United States in collaboration with Grammy and Emmy award-winning producer, Jamie Tate, and features co-writes with award-winning songwriters, including Phil Barton (USA), Jerry Salley (USA), Alex Seier (USA), and label mate, Kirsty-Lee Akers.

In support, Hayley will launch the album this evening in Canberra, followed by Albury tomorrow, Melbourne on Sunday and Sydney on Thursday, 17 May, before making her way to the UK for the Buckle & Boots Festival.

“This album is an eclectic mix of feelings and emotions, but regardless of the feel, all songs have a really special meaning to me. From falling in love to losing a loved one, having a fun night out with your  friends, to chasing dreams whilst battling the grind of the 9-5 – they’re about real life stories, my stories…and I think you’ll be able to relate.” – Hayley Jensen

Turning Up the Dial has so far seen the release of two singles.  The first one became a summer hit, aptly entitled Summertime Soundtrack, reaching #4 in the KIX Top 20 and #1 on Australian Country Radio chart, with the video making it comfortably into the Country Music Channel’s Top 20. It’s also achieved over 140,000 streams on Spotify since being added to the Fresh Country Playlist and the music video has now eclipsed an impressive 140,000 views online as well.  Summertime Soundtrack was written by Jensen and Alex Seier.

The second and latest single, Saturday Night is another fun-filled track from Hayley and was co-written with Daniel Skeed.  It’s a catchy, turn it up loud, sing-along song about dreaming of escaping the grind and hitting the town with friends.

Two of the songs on the new record were penned solely by Jensen, Next Big Thing and the title track, Turning Up The Dial.

Turning Up The Dial is the rockiest track on the album. It’s a big sing with a stratospheric melody. I wanted to open with a bang and this song certainly does that! Lyrically, it’s about the struggle of being a country girl with a country attitude trying to make it in the ‘big smoke’, and the battle to make a buck and land opportunities to perform and be recognised as an artist. The song for me was about taking my music career to the next level and not holding back. I’ve been working at it, honing my craft for a number of years, but with this album, I really wanted to come out strong and hit the ground running, musically, in my songwriting, and in the amount of energy I’m giving. It’s a super fun one to play live too!” – Hayley Jensen

Next Big Thing is about hype and fleeting fame, the track accentuated with killer guitars, stirring strings and a moody bassline, stunning vocal layering and a hauntingly catchy chorus putting the listener in a very cool groove and ready to move and sing with it.

This Love saw her teaming up with two fellow Australian country singers, Kirsty Lee Akers and Natalie Pearson, a song about when love falls into place when you least expect it, featuring a fun sing-a-long part and cool harmonies.

And, of course, no country release would be complete without a pure love ballad and Forever Won’t Be Long Enough is just that, written for and dedicated to Hayley’s beau and now husband, and co-written with acclaimed songwriter, Jerry Salley, in Nashville.

“I knew I wanted to write a song for our wedding that captured the way I felt about him, and I knew Jerry, who is very well known and for writing award-winning, extraordinary love ballads, would be the perfect person to write this special song with. The idea behind this song is that all of my days on this earth won’t be nearly enough to express how I feel about him, or to experience all that we dream of doing together. We danced to this song on our wedding day and it was the most romantic moment ever! I hope other couples will love this song too and use it for their first dance, experiencing the same rush that we felt on that special day.” – Hayley Jensen

Hayley also put pen to paper with good friend Phil Barton on You’re With Me and Starting Right Now, with Kris Bergsnes also joining the pair as a co-writer for the latter, about chasing dreams, making life count, and giving everything your all.

You’re With Me is a special and precious song, written for and about Hayley’s father who she sadly lost two years ago after a long battle with cancer.

“The heartache that comes with losing someone you love, particularly a parent, is absolutely debilitating.  He was one of my biggest supporters and sources of encouragement in life, particularly in music. He was so proud of me. I wanted to succeed, just to make him happy. Some days, I’ll look in the mirror and almost see him in my reflection, well the expressions, and smile that he passed on to me anyway. And sometimes when I laugh or am having a conversation with someone, I can almost hear his voice or his joke instead of my own. I miss our curious conversations and his strong yet warm and loving embrace. My favourite line in this song is ‘even though I can’t wrap my arms around you, you’re with me’. And even though he is no longer here on this earth, I really do feel that he is still with me, proud as punch, clearing the path before me and helping to light my way.” – Hayley Jensen
