Today, ARIA-chart topping duo, Luke Dubber (Dubs) and Angus Stuart (El Gusto) aka Hermitude return with a NYE heater in their new single, “St Claire”, out via Elefant Traks.
Born from a writing trip to New Zealand’s southern coastal city, Dunedin, and later recorded in their Blue Mountains-based hometown of Blackheath, “St Claire” marks a visceral re-energising and musical homecoming for the pair, following their previous long-play, Pollyanarchy, released in 2019. From an airbnb kitchen facing the calm waves of the South Pacific Ocean, Luke Dubs and El Gusto set up a tiny studio and laid down the beats that would later become today’s single. Later, from El Gusto’s home in Blackheath, the pair found themselves completely relaxed and immersed within an environment and community that they owe so much of their award-winning career to, ready to finesse the final touches needed.
Opening to a cerebral synth, “St Claire” is an engrossing listen. Building textures of synth flourishes and risers punctuate a modulated beat drop and driving rhythms. Electronic in flavour and acutely reflective of the addictive melodies Hermitude pen with no comparison, the journey of “St Claire” is one that’s irresistible and enjoyable. Reconnecting to their surroundings throughout its creation, as the duo navigated a new chapter in their lives and careers, hear the progressive back-bone of their creativity shine and re-emerge with no limits on the track.

Hermitude on the track: “We were flying to Japan, it was late February 2020 and we had a gig in Hakuba, a snow village east of Tokyo. I remember being in the gate at Sydney airport, Dubs and I were deep in conversation. We were talking about where to go with the next sound of Hermitude, the next body of work.
The song, born in a small beach town with the same name in Dunedin New Zealand. We were still ironing out the last couple of songs from Pollyanarchy, but mostly this week was for creating new works. ‘St Claire’ was born that week and it was refreshing, it was different, for us definitely. There was a mood to it that instantly grabbed us, we knew this was something special.”
Award-winning multi-instrumentalists, Luke Dubs and El Gusto have moved strength to strength as Hermitude, since meeting in their early teens. First signing to Elefant Traks in 2002, the pair have marked out a sonic footprint that is defined by their hip-hop roots and electronic soundscapes. Their 2012 album, Hyperparadise would see its title track reach #38 on the ARIA Charts and its Flume remix hit speakers everywhere, while their single “Speak of the Devil” would win a J Award for Music Video of the Year. Their follow-up album, Dark Night Sweet Light debuted at #1 on the ARIA Charts, with singles “The Buzz” featuring Mataya and Young Tapz firmly placing them on the world map. Their latest album, Pollyanarchy again reflected the duo’s development as one of the country’s best duos, adored by triple j and press nationally. Most recently, “Hyperparadise” received a Tropkillaz remix, and its previous flip from Flume and GANZ was featured on EA Sports’ FIFA 2022 soundtrack.
Having toured the world at their own sold-out headline shows, and at some of the biggest festivals, including Splendour in the Grass, Groovin The Moo, Falls Festival, Field Day, Spilt Milk, St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, Lollapalooza, The Governors Ball and more, Hermitude’s return to the live stage is hugely anticipated for fans worldwide in 2022. Catch the pair perform tonight in NSW’s Gosford at Drifters Wharf for a New Year celebration, before the rescheduled For Shore festival in Queensland’s Sandstone Point on February 12. Western Australian fans will be in for another treat when the pair return for Busselton’s Out of the Woods festival across the ANZAC Day long weekend in April.
The re-emergence of one of Australia’s best and most-awarded electronic acts, today is marked by a cosmic timing that takes Hermitude back to where it all began in the Blue Mountains, as they share one of their most magical single releases to date, “St Claire”. Listen now, on the cusp of the New Year, as the duo gear up for an almighty 2022.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
