After sharing their NYE heater last month, ARIA-chart topping duo Hermitude return today with the official music video for “St Claire”, out now via Elefant Traks.

Directed by Paven Gill at Sonder Films Productions and filmed in the Blue Mountains heartland, the track’s building textures of synth flourishes and risers sync to the video’s lead character skating leafy pathways, as she slowly takes in her surroundings along the way. As she meets up with friends in the city, the cloudy skies and concrete backdrop provide the perfect urban setting as their crew of friends skate the day away together.

Paven Gill on the music video: “It was amazing working with Hermitude. Learning about the stories and the process behind each song gave us a deep appreciation for this project and their artistry. We really wanted to show a different side of the Blue Mountains with scenes of the youth culture and what it’s like up in the mountains. There were definitely challenges working with the weather up in the mountains but we pushed to work around the weather and aimed to capture authentic moments that give the audience a sense of the Blue Mountains.”

Born from a writing trip to New Zealand’s southern coastal city, Dunedin, and later recorded in their Blue Mountains-based hometown of Blackheath, “St Claire” marks a visceral re-energising and musical homecoming for the pair, following their previous long-play, Pollyanarchy, released in 2019. Electronic in flavour and acutely reflective of the addictive melodies Hermitude pen with no comparison, “St Claire” is an engrossing listen. Since release, it has enjoyed widespread Spotify and Apple Music support globally, as well as additions to the former’s Front Left, The Local List and New Music Friday playlists to name but a few.

Award-winning multi-instrumentalists, Luke Dubs and El Gusto have moved strength to strength as Hermitude, since meeting in their early teens. First signing to Elefant Traks in 2002, the pair have marked out a sonic footprint that is defined by their hip-hop roots and electronic soundscapes. Their 2012 album, Hyperparadise would see its title track reach #38 on the ARIA Charts and its Flume remix hit speakers everywhere, while their single “Speak of the Devil” would win a J Award for Music Video of the Year. Their follow-up album, Dark Night Sweet Light debuted at #1 on the ARIA Charts, with singles “The Buzz” featuring Mataya and Young Tapz firmly placing them on the world map. Their latest album, Pollyanarchy again reflected their development as one of the country’s best duos, adored by triple j and press nationally. Most recently, “Hyperparadise” received a Tropkillaz remix, and its previous flip from Flume and GANZ was featured on EA Sports’ FIFA 2022 soundtrack.

Having toured the world at their own sold-out headline shows, and at some of the biggest festivals, including Splendour in the Grass, Groovin The Moo, Falls Festival, Field Day, Spilt Milk, St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, Lollapalooza, The Governors Ball and more, Hermitude’s return to the live stage is hugely anticipated for fans worldwide in 2022. After performing in NSW’s Gosford at Drifters Wharf for a New Year celebration, they next head to For Shore festival in Queensland’s Sandstone Point on February 12. Western Australian fans will be in for another treat when the pair return for Busselton’s Out of the Woods festival across the ANZAC Day long weekend in April.

As one of Australia’s favourite and most-decorated electronic acts make an almighty return, witness today’s visual accompaniment to “St Claire” and accept the invitation to join Hermitude as they reconnect to their environment and surroundings where it all began.
