Warped rock outfit Hey Geronimo have just released “Disconnect”, the first single off their sophomore album CONTENT. The album is due for release on Friday, 7th September 2018 and is available to pre-order now.
“ [Disconnect] is a crunching return that crackles with rare electricity.” – Clash MagazineIn an Australian first, the band has recruited Artificial Intelligence to “join the line-up” after their long-time (human) guitarist left the band. Sounding like a secret track from a dystopian Sgt Pepper, the band used a heavily modified version of existing Amper Music software to co-write “Disconnect” with ‘Alex’ – the result being parts written and performed by AI that are indistinguishable from that of its human counterparts.
“We’ve ironically used the technology to highlight how bizarre the times we live in are. For better or worse, many of the skills that humans have historically valued in society are becoming redundant. Arts are the final frontier. We’re on the way to becoming obsolete. You want to tell me a human guitarist is any better than our AI friend on this album? You can’t. Nobody can tell the difference, and if they say they can, they’re lying. Like it or not, this is the future.” – Pluto Jonze

Hey Geronimo have also treated fans to a new video for new single “Disconnect”. Filmed on location in Wollongong and Kathmandu, the work ponders an anti-social future, fueled by technology. The clip addresses screen addiction, kids growing up with devices, modern dating facilitated by tech, and generally not living in the moment when your device is around.
“The way society has adapted to the tech revolution of the last decade is very curious. It seems obvious that our monkey brains are struggling to cope with it. Ours very much included!” – Hey Geronimo
Hey Geronimo’s debut album, CRASHING INTO THE SUN became one of the best-reviewed independent Australian Records of 2016, with praise coming from The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and Rolling Stone.
“Hey Geronimo live on pop’s fast and curious side – think jangly riffs, sped up lyrics, warped vocal loops and crashing riffs aplenty.” – Sydney Morning Herald
“There is a remarkable consistency of style and vision… Every tune has moments of melodic perfection worthy of The Beach Boys” – The AU Review
