Today, twice Grammy nominated, Melbourne-based group Hiatus Kaiyote announce they will perform live from Fitzroy’s Northside Records car park this Saturday, July 17 as part of Record Store Day.

Hiatus Kaiyote last performed at Northside Records in April 2013, and now return full circle on their musical journey, to provide a free show to their fans and the Melbourne community. The free all-ages performance, presented in partnership with Leaps and Bounds Festival from the City Of Yarra, will kick off at 5PM. Capacity is limited, with all COVID-protocols in place to ensure fans may have a safe and socially distanced time, so be sure to head down early to secure your spot to hear Mood Valiant live for the first time since release.

Hiatus Kaiyote recently released their first album in six years, Mood Valiant out via Brainfeeder Records / Ninja Tune. Debuting at #4 on the ARIA Albums Charts, and receiving praise from Pitchfork, Dazed, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, NPR and more, the album is a follow up to their critically acclaimed 2015 album Choose Your Weapon.

Mood Valiant came together after six years during which the band spent time touring, writing and recording, culminating in a 2019 trip to Rio de Janeiro that led them to work with legendary Brazilian arranger Arthur Verocai. The result is an album, bookended by Verocai’s strings, that relaxes into a groove: sunlit, beguiling, masterful. Behind everything is Hiatus’ familiar sense of musical adventure, their knack for making the complex sound simple, evident in previously-released singles “Get Sun”, “Red Room” and “Chivalry Is Not Dead” which have since been added to multiple New Music playlists across Spotify and Apple Music globally. Meanwhile, the album debuted across 10 different Billboard charts, and alongside rapturous reviews was included in Pitchfork’s New Albums You Should Listen To NowPaste’s Albums We’re Most Excited About in June, Dazed’s 7 Albums Of The Week and NPR’s New Music Friday Podcast.

Taking the album on the road, Hiatus Kaiyote will continue on their Mood Valiant Australian tour from September, visiting Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Canberra, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane. The band are also scheduled to play the rescheduled Bluesfest in Byron Bay come October. Visit Hiatus Kaiyote’s Official Store for more information.

Don’t miss joining in this coming weekend’s special occasion, as the band celebrate their triumphant third album, Mood Valiant.
