Last Friday, Holy Holy releases their fourth studio LP and triple j feature album, Hello My Beautiful World via the Wonderlick Recording Company. The dense and ambitious record is built upon a foundation of electronic beats and rolling synths; it combines lush string arrangements and chanted vocals that culminate in a heady and persuasive mix. To mark the release, Holy Holy shares the spellbinding live and stripped back video for The Aftergone feat. CLEWS.

Recorded in a series of modest studios and spare rooms in Tasmania and Victoria, Holy Holy’s fourth album, Hello My Beautiful World is perhaps their most fully realised. The record moves fluidly through a collection of feverish moods and atmospheres, unfolding unpredictably and building to a series of fierce and manic highs. “We were given all the freedom in the world to do whatever we wanted, and this is what we did,” says vocalist and lyricist Timothy Carroll. “It’s a work we’re proud of. Some of the songs are really different for us, however, at the same time, I feel really connected to this album.”
Like many records you will hear throughout 2021, Hello My Beautiful World was forged in the midst of Australia’s ongoing lockdown period. The pair didn’t tackle the album entirely on their own – Japanese Wallpaper added distinctive texture and flair across the album, and of course there is the hyperactive, fiery guest verses of Melbourne rapper Queen P on Port Rd. Throw in the flourishes of composer Toby Alexander’s string arrangements, plus collaborations with The Presets Kim Moyes and you’re looking at a record that sees the band redefining itself as a powerful force in the Australian songwriting landscape.
“When we work with people from different genres, it’s not that we’re totally different from them. There are heaps of similarities too. Music genres aren’t black-and-white,” adds Oscar Dawson, the band’s guitarist and primary producer. “It’s all about the grey zone, and you meet somewhere in the middle. You’re similar enough to be together in the first place; but where you differ is where the light can come through.”
With border restrictions and lockdowns still in process across much of Australia’s east coat, the band are accustomed to working remotely from one another. With this as the current benchmark, Holy Holy has made systems so they can record audio and video in their hometowns, thus coming up with the stripped-back version of The Aftergone. Oscar says, ‘…we’ve always lived in different states, for as long as the band has existed. So we’ve had some practise at working remotely; this is another example of that’. Tim adds, “Oscar recorded his parts at home in the Mornington Peninsula, I recorded mine in Launceston – working from the studio of Jack McLaine from Sumner. CLEWS recorded in their podcast recording studio in Sydney. It’s nice to get a chance to hear the songs stripped back like this. You get to lean more into the song structure and core melodies’. Oscar concludes, ‘…also, whilst we’re locked down, things just happen. I get bored, so videos like these just sort of… emanate’.
With their three full-length albums to date, the duo have built a loyal and dedicated fanbase with over 100 million streams across their body of work and multiple gold and platinum singles hanging on their walls. If that wasn’t enough, there are nominations for ARIA Awards, J Awards and National Live Music Awards to take note of, all maintained through their fanatically attended live shows and unique songwriting.
Hello My Beautiful World will be released through Wonderlick Recording Company on Friday 20 August and is available to pre order now. The album is available in all formats including a limited edition clear vinyl, with a 24-page booklet including the 11 original song artworks.

AMNPLIFY – JC
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
