Recently, Brisbane singer-songwriter Hope D released her highly anticipated debut album Clash of The Substance via AWAL.  To mark the release of her debut LP, Hope D has also revealed her latest single and heartbreak anthem Doormat – a testament to her ability to evoke emotion through her captivating story-telling and contrasting soundscapes.

Hope D won’t be held responsible for decisions made under the influence of hormones, heartbreak, alcohol and the other intoxicants which go to war in the arena of her debut LP, Clash Of The Substance. Armed with a painful honesty, her guitar and a dangerously low balance on her debit card, the queer coming-of-age soundtrack cements her as one of Australia’s most refreshing new voices. Produced by Aidan Hogg and mastered by Joe La Porta, Clash of the Substance features the tempestuous new single Senseless, the instant earworm Emerald, the infectious Hate Goodbyes and the intoxicating Happy Hangover.

An ode to the sting of heartbreak that comes with watching an ex-partner move on with new people in new places, new single Doormat was written on New Years Day 2022 making it the most recently written song on the album. Hope said of the song, “Doormat is about going through my most recent breakup, on NYE I went back to the house on I was moving out of and saw there was a party with heaps of faces I had never seen before. My ex didn’t invite me (which was fine) but it was so brutal to see all these people in my crumbling home that I fell in love in – with all my things still in it and that I was still paying rent for. I wrote an extended and messy version of the song which was more brutal and emotive than what it is now but with the help of my best mate Brando (of Platonic Sex fame) I turned it into what people will hear on the album.” This story had a happy ending however, as the official video clip that will be out in a couple of weeks will be directed by Hope’s ex-partner the song was written about.

Famed for her undeniably jubilant and unruly live show, Hope D recently announced Clash Of The Substance national headline album tour will kick off on Friday 24 March in Melbourne and travel to Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, and finish in her hometown of Brisbane on Thursday 6 April.

Out now everywhere digitally, Clash Of The Substance is also available to order on vinyl via SoundMerch, including an exclusive purple and teal marble limited edition vinyl and exclusive merch bundles.

In the past year, Hope D performed a national headline tour and took the stage at Groovin The Moo, BIGSOUND, Falls Festival and The Zoo’s 30th Birthday Party, and will perform at Party in the Paddock this weekend.

Introducing herself in late 2019 with her debut single Swim, Hope D captivated audiences with her eclectic capability to create purposeful, confessional and enthralling music. This release led her to taking home the inaugural Queensland Music Awards Emerging Artist Of The Year, performances at Splendour In The Grass, Laneway Festival and King Street Crawl.
