Irish superstar HOZIER has announced headline dates for April 2019, performing back-to-back nights at the iconic Sydney Opera House Concert Hall on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 April, followed by a night at Melbourne’s stunning Palais Theatre on Thursday 25 April with special guest Didirri. He plays an already announced appearance at Bluesfest in Byron Bay over the Easter long weekend.
Premiering this morning on Zane Lowe’s World Record on Beats 1, Hozier’s brand new single ‘Movement’ is the first taste of his forthcoming sophomore album. Watch the video, starring Sergei Polunin here.
The Grammy-nominated artist returns to Australia more than three years on from sold-out performances in Perth and across the East Coast of Australia that left audiences yearning for more. With a transformative live show, monstrous vocals and swelling harmonies, Hozier is a performer of the highest calibre, revered the world over.
Released in September, latest EP ‘NINA CRIED POWER’ has tided fans over, but with an upcoming album and Australian shows on the horizon, Hozier is laying foundations for what is set to be his greatest musical moment.
Hozier’s music, beyond its bluesy, anthemic qualities, depicts stories of equality; EP title track, ‘Nina Cried Power’ featuring vocals by legendary soul singer Mavis Staples and icon Booker T Jones on organ, is an anthem for activism and uprising. The thunderous success of six times platinum single ‘Take Me To Church’ launched the artist’s career with a message against homophobia, whilst the ‘Cherry Wine’ music video raised awareness and funds for domestic violence.
Applying this altruistic outlook to poignantly written songs, Hozier has impressed with sets at Lollapalooza, Coachella, iTunes Festival, won Billboard, BBC, Teen Choice awards, appeared on premier TV shows Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Ellen, and stunned on The Legend of Tarzan’s soundtrack with single ‘Better Love’.
Supporting in Melbourne will be rising local star DIDIRRI. The mesmerising folk artist presents lyrics of heartbreak and healing over the top of charming melodies. No stranger to prestigious supports, Didirri has opened for the likes of Tash Sultana, The Jezabels, The Temper Trap, and more.
To experience Hozier live is to experience the power of a true songsmith and performer. Visiting Australia for the first time since 2015, catch the passion of the Irish bluesman this April.
