To celebrate three decades as a group, Human Nature have today released STILL TELLING EVERYBODY – 30 YEARS OF HITS – a retrospective collection of 28 immaculate musical statements through Sony Music Entertainment Australia. Buy, download or stream NOW.

Of how Human Nature – Toby Allen, Phil Burton plus brothers Andrew and Mike Tierney – selected the tracks for this milestone compilation album, Andrew explains, “We went chronologically and tried to pick musical highlights that would represent each record, and hopefully narrowed it down to songs that mark a point in time for people that have been following our career.”

As well as fan favourites including ‘Every Time You Cry’ (feat. John Farnam), ‘He Don’t Love You’, ‘When You Say You Love Me’, ‘People Get Ready’ and ‘Uptight (Everything’s Alright)’, Australia’s favourite pop-vocal group also wanted to treat fans by including a couple of new tracks on STILL TELLING EVERYBODY – 30 YEARS OF HITS. Once studio time in Las Vegas was booked, Human Nature flew the Australian production duo of Andy and Thom Mak over to lay down the Motown classic ‘This Old Heart Of Mine’ plus a reimagined version of their Gold-certified smash hit ‘Don’t Say Goodbye’ – one of the six singles that were lifted from the group’s 3x Platinum debut record TELLING EVERYBODY (1996).

On Human Nature’s decision to reimagine this particular song from their extensive back catalogue, Andrew shares, “Mike and I wrote the song ‘Don’t Say Goodbye’ with Paul Begaud and I’ve always felt it’s a great song. The original album version was a big hit, but as the years have gone on I find it hard to listen to the original version, because it’s this big emotional ballad and, in 2019, we felt like it needed a refresh just to highlight what a really great song it is… We performed it that way during our tour earlier on in the year and it felt really great.”

Mike then reveals of recording ‘This Old Heart Of Mine’ specifically for STILL TELLING EVERYBODY – 30 YEARS OF HITS: “It’s such a great Motown song and we wanted to do something a bit more contemporary with it. Even though it’s an old song, I think it can still feel new and current for people listening to it for the first time.”

Since signing to Sony Music Australia over two decades ago, Human Nature have released 13 studio albums (4 of which went to #1 in Australia) plus 15 top 20 and 5 top 10 hit singles worldwide. With album sales in excess of 2.5 million in Australia alone, the group’s combined releases to date have been certified 26x Platinum.

Earlier this year, Human Nature were awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for their service to the performing arts and entertainment field and Andrew recounts, “We attended a ceremony in Canberra and to witness my Mum and Dad getting teary seeing that their boys had done something the country was proud of was a really cool moment for me. I think people seem very proud of how we represent Australia – not just for the records we make, but also just as people that we are.”

On 27th November, 2019, Human Nature will be inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame and Philmarvels, “It’ll actually be 30 years to the day from our first-ever concert when we get inducted, which is great!” Andrew remembers the group’s debut performance in Bankstown, NSW on 27th November, 1989 very clearly: “We were these four young guys who just got up and sang a doo-wop classic called ‘Earth Angel’ – we still perform that song sometimes, actually. We had sunglasses on and were kind of uncool, but people seemed to like it. It’s bizarre and totally coincidental that it just so happens to be that very same date 30 years later that we’re being inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame. I think we’re the first boy band to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame as well, which is kind of cool.”

Of the group’s imminent ARIA Hall Of Fame induction, Toby enthuses, “It’s very exciting. To be recognised and appreciated for all of that time and the body of work we’ve produced and all of the other things that we’ve done – it’s one of our proudest moments.”

When asked what he thinks it is about Human Nature that connects with fans of all ages the world over, Andrew answers without hesitation, “I think it’s a genuineness – we’re not trying to be anything we’re not – and also the fact that we still enjoy what we do and have a good time. We were just four guys that grew up together in high school; no one was picked because they seemed ‘right’,” he laughs. “We have this chemistry as friends that translates into the group and we always try to highlight that on stage by having a joke at our own expense every now and again.”

His brother Mike adds, “When the four of us sing together there’s a magic that people seem to really enjoy. We’re passionate about entertaining people and we like to put on a show that incorporates some real old-school showmanship.”

“Music is in our blood,” Andrew concludes, “it oozes out of us and, yeah! It brings us a lot of happiness. We couldn’t imagine doing anything else.”

As one of Australia’s finest musical exports, Human Nature are bound to be ‘Still Telling Everybody’ and showcasing those flawless four-part harmonies for many decades to come. And when it comes to Human Nature, we’re all ears.
