Cosmic Australian DJ/Producer GEM has today shared her retro-electro, instant-classic If I’m Honest – the follow-up single to Malibu – from her forthcoming EP. The modern-nostalgic track arrives with a dreamy video that launches the listener into a summery adventure.

This pristinely mixed and mastered track (Grammy® winning and nominated engineers; Serge Courtois and Dale Becker, respectively) is rooted in sexy 80s-inspired percussion, synths and a vocal from the future floating on top like a marshmallow cloud. Gentle, chilled and optimistic, GEM asks, “What if producers could be the modern day shaman?” If I’m Honest is in the key of B, which is widely recognised to align most closely with the Crown Chakra linked with deep realisations and surrendering control…which is exactly what this creamy and sincere lyric achieves when it floats over “I know that I’m not flawless, but you and me were gorgeous”. Co-written with Spotify’s New Music Friday latest star, Boy Soda, there is something very authentic and endearing about this track. You feel as if you have opened a page of GEM’s personal diary.

GEM has been booked to headline the Los Angeles Power Women Summit (December 8-10 2020), the annual gathering of the most influential women in entertainment, media and technology. Just prior to the pandemic’s start, GEM flew back home to Australia to perform at the Melbourne Grand Prix, but the event was cancelled due to the Covid-19, which in a twist of fortune, saw her able to spend quality time in Aus with her family and dive into work on her EP, new GEM YouTube channel and multiple global collaborations.

Proudly repping Australia, GEM was named one of the top 5 female producers in the world to watch by Showbiz Magazine and she’s been welcomed in to the industry’s inner circle via the Grammy® NEXT program as one of the top emerging producers for 2020-2021. GEM reflects, “I am so honoured to be included into the Grammy® NEXT program and ballot one of the GRAMMY® Awards – it still feels like a big, beautiful dream. Although I get terribly homesick for Australia, LA has been very good to me”.

If I’m Honest marks only the second original track to be released from GEM, with so much momentum behind the Produce/DJ/ Artist, it’s easy to see why the Los Angeles Tribune called GEM, “The best export from Australia since Flume”. With less than 2% of the music industry’s producers female (and even less for DJs at <1%)…GEM is a true trailblazer, redefining New Age with soft-electro, feel-good wellness music that she calls “Sonic Tonics”.

Designed and edited by Hussam Eissa, an emerging digital artist out of Egypt, the If I’m Honest video transports you into a beautiful summer wonderland. Complete with gently swaying palm trees and striking sunsets. The abstract video allows the lyric to linger on, as if sending a sign out to the universe; one of releasing control and speaking your truth. The video explores the concept of a twin flame love, a magnetic connection that shows up in the different phases of your life: An anthem for introverts everywhere.
