Today, American breakout indie singer-songwriter Lila Drew releases her deceptively elaborate and sophisticated new single Crystal Ball via AWAL. Lila’s beautiful, ethereal vocals soar on the stark, lo-fi track, showcasing her immense talents and exemplifies why she continues to be a rising artist to watch.
Crystal Ball was written by Lila and platinum selling songwriter, Jordan Reyes (Donna Missal, Blackbear), who also produced the track. “The original demo of the song consisted of a scrappy lead vocal, guitar, background vocals, and this little drum machine, and I remember it didn’t feel exactly right,” Lila shares. “A few weeks after making the demo, I had a chance to meet a hero of mine, James Blake, and our conversation gave me the confidence to strip it back. We talked a lot about the anxieties that come with songwriting and about letting my voice take the lead rather than hiding behind loads of production. That has certainly had an impact on a lot of my new music — allowing myself to yell and be emotive in that way. It’s maybe as sincere as I get.”
The track comes on the heels of Lila’s latest single and first new music this year, 2023, which debuted at #30 on US College Radio last month. 2023 also received an outpouring of support and playlisting on DSPs including Spotify’s New Music Friday, Lorem, Pop Sauce and New Pop Picks; and Apple Music’s New Music Daily, New Pop, and more. The official music video, directed by the renowned Vincent Haycock (Billie Eilish, Florence and the Machine, Harry Styles) has amassed over 282K views and climbing daily.
The 21-year-old musician assembles her music from handwritten diary entries, notebook confessions, and countless voice memos. Lila approaches songwriting as “lyrical scrapbooking… pulling from a lot of different emotions and situations to articulate a full feeling.” Growing up, she immersed herself in her family’s diverse record collection, studying the craft of legends like Joni Mitchell, Lauryn Hill, Van Morrison, and everything in-between. She took piano lessons, taught herself how to play guitar, and recorded herself using GarageBand. At 17, She released her first single, Faded/2am ft. Goldlink, and two years later her first EP, locket (side one). By 20 she’d earned over 40 million global streams along with widespread acclaim from Harper’s Bazaar, Rolling Stone and CR Fashion Book. Zane Lowe christened her “an essential artist,” and The FADER called her an “L.A. native with a voice so smooth that it reminds you of the sunshine of her hometown.”

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
