Introducing
triple j Unearthed’s
DIY Supergroup
finalists…
.
.
Last month we shared a rare one-off sample pack with you, featuring sounds made by some of Australia’s leading musical minds including Flume, Tame Impala, Amy Shark, Tkay Maidza, Middle Kids, The Jungle Giants, Tash Sultana and G Flip.
Inside that little golden zip folder were vocal samples, guitar loops, synth sounds, bass lines and drums. We asked you to hit that download button, select your sounds and form a DIY Supergroup!
Over the past four weeks, the triple j Unearthed music community have taken those samples and worked their songwriting magic, turning the sounds into their very own masterpieces. They went out and whipped up 900 original songs, ranging from pop to hip-hop, neo-soul, psych-rock, electro and everything in between.
After listening to each and every entry in their own glory, triple j Unearthed are excited to announce the DIY Supergroup finalists…
EAST AV3 – Astronaut (SA)
As the freshly anointed princes of the SA rap scene, Adelaide trio EAST AV3 jumped at the chance to work with the vocals of hometown hero Tkay Maidza, cooking up this knocking track that’s full of memorable boasts like “I like ass/I’m an astronaut”.
JEFFE – Apocalypse [Ft. Jack Gray] (NSW)
Connecting after they’d both emerged from quarantine, JEFFE and her mate Jack Gray sum up the state of 2020 in this lovestruck ballad called ‘Apocalypse’. Hollywood script writers couldn’t pen it better!
JIM ALXNDR – u + her 4eva (QLD)
Kudos to JIM ALXNDR for harnessing the emotional vocals of Amy Shark’s guest vocals and then making them cut even deeper on this yearning and atmospheric entry. The perfect soundtrack to contemplative nights alone in iso.
ROYBOY – switchUP (NSW)
Mystery Sydney act ROYBOY twist and crunch bits of Tame Impala’s bass and G Flip’s drums into an electrifying banger. Even when they tell you to watch out for the switch up, you’ll still be left in awe when this one flips!
Wolfjay – Very Soon [Ft. Austen] (VIC)
Housemates becoming bandmates? We love to see it! Non-binary bedroom producer Wolfjay roped in their flatty and solo alt-pop singer Austen to work on this stunning and dreamy collab.
Stay tuned as we announce the winner on triple j Breakfast with Sally & Erica next week!

triple j Unearthed – discovering new Australian music
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
