Following a run of electric shows performing as special guest for MAY-A and Flowerkid, South Coast ioakim reveals his debut EP feel something or nothing at all, out now via Arcadia Records / Sony Music Entertainment Australia. To mark the release, the multi-talented artist has revealed the official video for focus track kids should know better, alongside the announcement of headline shows at Golden Age Cinema in Sydney on 22nd October and Yah Yah’s in Melbourne on 4th November.
Directed by Tom Vanderzeil (Passive Kneeling), the nostalgic film clip for kids should know better was shot on location in South Sydney and the Inner West using multiple mediums, including stills taken on a Nintendo DS. “We wanted to create a video that felt nostalgic yet matched the buzzing, energetic feeling that the track brings. Similar to the mess video that Tom also directed, we shot on an array of mediums which were run through numerous visual synths and rescanned through old CRT televisions. The final outcome is a perfect balance of a home-style movie and an over-stylised, early 90s performance music video.”

feel something or nothing at all pairs ioakim’s recent infectious singles mess, passion, deep end and fan favourite mona lisa with two never heard before tracks. The songs contained on feel something or nothing at all are true to the EP’s title – this is a record about mining the depths of the human heart and revealing what you find, no matter how ugly or uncomfortable. kids should know better, made with co-producer Oscar Sharah (moonboy, Mel Blue) , is built around a whirlpool of a psych freakout, the song’s indie-dance shuffle channelling French touch revival and aughts-era dance punk in one fell swoop. carpool, a hazed-out highlight, paints a picture of a falling out with a friend with heartbreakingly vivid strokes.
“I’m stoked to be sharing my debut EP feel something or nothing at all [ FSONAA ] with you. The majority of the record was written, recorded and produced in my bedroom, and if it wasn’t in my bedroom it was in a friend’s. It’s an honest reflection of thoughts, feelings and experiences from the last couple of years. It’s close to home, personal, and feels we’re just getting started” ioakim explains.
Hailing from NSW’s south-coast, ioakim’s music and artistic vision is dream-like, nostalgic and care-free. The need to communicate is the reason he creates music, drawing on life experiences, aspirations and self growth. Inspired from his favourite artists’ sense for soul and melody (including the likes of indie luminaries like MGMT, Two Door Cinema Club and Matt Corby) you can hear that drive — to see music as a conduit for feeling as well as an aesthetic or artistic practise — throughout ioakim’s debut EP, feel something or nothing at all. Across six songs, some of them languid and loose, others taut and driving, ioakim navigates the treacherous terrain of young adulthood, charting out all its attendant highs and lows with spirit and verve.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
