Today, Australian 4-piece pop-indie band Ivey, release the eagerly awaited six-track EP “Silver Linings”, and lead single of the same title, out now on Island Records Australia/Universal Music Australia.

The EP is sonically some of the best music the band have created and the most authentic and heartfelt songwriting to date with stirring, melancholic lyrics. Driven by honest and poignant lyricism intertwined with Ivey’s unique blend of indie-pop beats and hooky choruses, with melodic guitars, a driving bass line and a unique sonic architecture, this release is reminiscent of 2000s indie-electro pop.

“Silver Linings” serves as a poignant reflection of the experiences shared by the band over the past two years. Hailing from the Gold Coast and now based in London, Ivey is led by the captivating vocalist, Millie Perks & founded by brothers Lachlan (vocals/guitar) and Matthew McGuffie (productions/drums) alongside their neighbour Dante Martin (drums). The band wrote and produced “Silver Linings” between their hometown and London home studio.

In May 2022, Ivey faced a devastating loss with the passing of Matt and Lachie’s father, Adam, to suicide. Adam was the heart of Ivey, initially stepping in as their legal guardian during shows when the band were young teenagers having formed at the age of 12. This role quickly turned into that of a crucial supporter, tour manager, and best friend for the band.

Ivey share, “putting together this EP has been both heartbreaking and healing. It is a coin, with two sides: one deals with confusion, suffering, anger, anguish, and sorrow, while the other reflects hope, love, friendship, discovery, support, and healing.”

The opening single “Silver Linings” is the fourth single from the EP which follows standout singles, the heartbreak love songLife Goes On, that has garnered support from triple j and BBC radio, the moody and infectiousCounting Sheepco-written with friend and songwriter Johannes Romer, and the upbeat and catchiest chorus on the EPPessimism”, co-produced with friend and collaborator Chris Zane (Passion Pit, Eves Karydas, Mumford & Sons, Bôa, Friendly Fires).

The single “Silver Linings” was the first song Ivey sat down to write together from their Gold Coast home studio after the passing of Adam. It was a moment where they were able sit still together and process the grief and loss through music.

Lachlan shares a little about the song, “we workshopped this song into existence quite quickly… the song is very literal. The first verse is sung from the present, expressing how we felt disconnected from reality after the tour but still incredibly torn apart. The pre-chorus is about the day he took his life. The second verse is about the funeral. The chorus sums up the often-ugly side of suicide: the questions, the shame, the guilt, the anger, the frustration. The bridge is about trying to find silver linings amidst all the despair, grief, and heartbreak. Matt has this way of creating sonic worlds for our songs, something that’s distinctly Ivey. He uses a lot of vocal chop techniques and has an ear for chords, pads, melodies, and moments that create this beautiful bed for the song to sit on.”

Ivey are excited to get back on the road and tour, continue their healing and keep building the legacy that Adam helped birth and nurture . They recently performed at Isle Of Wight and Ones To Watch Weekender Festivals in the UK and a sold-out headline show at The Grace, London. Next month they will be performing in Brighton, UK. Lots more show dates and music to come from Ivey.
