JACK RIVER’S
‘CLIMATE HOUR’ ANNOUNCED FOR
SUGAR MOUNTAIN BALL TOUR
– FRI 7 JUN, ENMORE THEATRE SYDNEY
.
Just a couple of weeks out from the beginning of her Sugar Mountain Ball national tour, Jack River (Holly Rankin) this morning reveals she will be hosting a climate panel discussion prior to her Sydney show at the Enmore Theatre on Friday 7 June from 6pm. Titled Climate Hour, entry to the event is free for Sugar Mountain Ball Sydney show ticket holders. RSVP is essential by emailing full name and proof of ticket purchase to [email protected]. Those unable to attend Climate Hour should keep an eye on Jack River socials where the panel will be broadcast following the event.
Holly wears her love for the environment on her sleeve with climate change and the protection of our planet being issues very close to her heart so it’s no surprise that Holly has taken it upon herself to educate and inspire her fans. “Climate change and its accompanying science and solutions are vast subjects which young people are so passionate about but simultaneously overwhelmed to the point of non-action,” she explains. “I want to directly inspire young people with personal stories of direct action and expertise, whilst breaking down the social frustration and confusion surrounding such a massive and overwhelming issue”.
Climate Hour will see Holly Rankin as chair on the panel that will feature three of Australia’s leading climate specialists and professionals: Professor Lesley Hughes (Climate Councillor – The Climate Council); Tim Silverwood (Co-Founder & CEO of Take 3 For The Sea) and Dr Karl (Science Writer), host of Science Hour alongside Linda Marigliano each Thursday on triple j.
Professor Lesley Hughes is a Distinguished Professor of Biology and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Integrity & Development) at Macquarie University. Lesley has been researching the impacts of climate change on species and ecosystems for more than 20 years. She is a former Lead Author in the IPCC’s 4th and 5th Assessment Report, a former federal Climate Commissioner and now a Councillor with The Climate Council of Australia.
Tim Silverwood is an environmentalist and passionate advocate for protecting our oceans and environment from human impacts. He is the Co-Founder & CEO of Take 3 For The Sea – an initiative to clean up our oceans, waterways and planet by simply asking us to Take 3 pieces of rubbish when you leave the beach, waterways or anywhere. As a surfer, Tim became alarmed at the increasing risks plastic pollution posed to our oceans and wildlife and in 2011, sailed 5000km across the North Pacific Ocean to study the infamous Great Pacific Garbage Patch, sharing his experiences through a popular TEDx talk on his return.
Tim’s achievements include being awarded the 2014 Green Globe ‘Sustainability Champion’; featuring in the hugely popular ABC series ‘War on Waste’ and starring as an ‘Ocean Guardian’ in the 2017 feature documentary ‘Blue’.
Dr Karl Kruszelnicki is a qualified scientist, doctor and engineer whose fun-loving personality led him to become a well-known author and science communicator. Dr Karl was a writer and presenter for the first series of ‘Quantum’, and has been a science commentator on TV ever since. In radio, he speaks on-air for about five hours every week including as host of Science Hour alongside Linda Marigliano each Thursday on triple j.
In addition to his degrees in Physics and Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering, and Medicine and Surgery, he has studied several non-degree years at various universities in Astrophysics, Computer Science and Philosophy. Dr Karl has written more than 40 books with more on the way.
Under her musical moniker Jack River, Holly Rankin recently announced her debut album Sugar Mountain will be re-released as a Deluxe edition on Friday 31 May (digitally and on limited edition vinyl). Featuring all songs from the original Sugar Mountain, the Deluxe edition features her brand new single ‘Adolescent’ – “a song for all the girls and boys sick of shallow and wasted love and the culture that celebrates it.” – alongside acoustic versions of singles ‘Fool’s Gold’ and ‘Fault Line’, and a cover of Neil Young’s original ‘Sugar Mountain’, from which the album drew its namesake.
Jack River’s Sugar Mountain Ball is described by Holly as, “The prom night we all never had. A grand and brilliant sparkly ballroom where you pour your whole heart out on the dancefloor to heal and cry and become strong.” Kicking off at Brisbane’s Tivoli on Friday 31 May, the Sugar Mountain Ball will tour theatres in Melbourne, Sydney, Fremantle and Adelaide throughout June in the biggest rooms Jack River has headlined.
Sydney ticket holders are encouraged to get down early to Enmore Theatre for Climate Hour. RSVP is essential and open now by emailing full name and proof of ticket purchase to [email protected].
