Japanese Wallpaper today releases his new track Fooling Around, the first new single since 2016’s Cocoon and his debut self-titled EP. To celebrate he has also announced a string of east-coast headlining tour dates in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne this December.

On the release Japanese Wallpaper says “Fooling Around is a song about figuring out how to accept your feelings and stand up for yourself. It has nothing to do with actually Fooling Around haha. It’s about self belief and not ignoring your emotions.”

A dizzying journey of synths and sharp melodies, this is pop electronica at its most self confident. Acting as a call to arms to anyone who has ever felt the need to assert themselves, the track is taken from a forthcoming record leaving his melancholic melodies behind and embracing a resounding sense of hopefulness.

Japanese Wallpaper, aka 21-year-old Gab Strum, won the triple j Unearthed High competition in 2014 with track Breathe In feat. Wafia. Since then he has produced music for the likes of Mallrat, Holy Holy, Wafia, Eilish Gilligan, swim good now, Bec Sandridge, Allday and gathered fans such as Flume, Gotye, Lily Allen, Nick Murphy, Rostam Batmangjil and Charli XCX who he remixed Need Ur Luv for.

Receiving over 20 million plays on Spotify, Japanese Wallpaper’s self-titled debut EP features Airling, Pepa Knight, Wafia, Jesse Davidson and remixes from Yumi Zouma, UV boi, Elkkle, Anatole to name a few. A festival favourite since 2014, he’s appeared on stage at Splendour in the Grass, St. Jeromes Laneway Festival, Secret Garden, The Plot, Beyond the Valley and more.

With new music on the way 2019 is shaping up to be a huge year for Japanese Wallpaper.
