Jaxsta, the world’s largest public-facing database of official music credits, today announced the release of its podcast series, Humans of Music, hosted by Jaxsta’s Head of Original Content Rod Yates.

Featuring intimate one-on-one conversations with some of the world’s biggest artists and music industry professionals, Episode 1 of Humans of Music features Gary Lightbody, frontman and co-founder of multi-million selling band Snow Patrol. Lightbody discusses his battles with depression, his journey to sobriety, the lean years before Snow Patrol achieved success, his father’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease, what it was like growing up in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, and why he was so incredibly scared of Henry Rollins the first time he saw him play live.

Some memorable excerpts from Episode 1 include Lightbody discussing:

His battles with depression: “I’d come back from gigs and be in the silence of the hotel room and be inconsolable…I didn’t realise it was because I had depression. I just thought there was something wrong with me.”

His journey to sobriety: “Any time I’ve thought about drinking, I’ve thought about hangovers immediately. It’s like my body or my mind has [gone], I’m going to set a safety switch, that every time you think about drinking you’re going to think about the last hangover you had, and the fact that it lasted two days…And it is an incredible safety valve to have.”

The fortnightly podcast series is hosted by former Rolling Stone Australia editor Yates, who brings to the podcast more than two decades’ experience as a music journalist and interviewer.

In keeping with Jaxsta’s promise of telling the story behind the music, each episode features Yates sitting down with a special guest to explore their life and career, their ups and downs, and the lessons they’ve learned along the way. The results are frequently funny, occasionally heartbreaking, often educational and always very, very revealing.

Upcoming guests on the Humans of Music podcast include Swedish pop artist and GRAMMY-nominee Tove Lo; legendary British singer-songwriter Billy Bragg; Best Coast founder and frontwoman Bethany Cosentino; award-winning Australian singer-songwriter John Butler; GRAMMY-nominated solo artist and New Pornographers vocalist Neko Case; and GRAMMY-winning producer M-Phazes.

Yates said, “This podcast offers an incredible opportunity for listeners to go one-on-one with some of the most inspiring artists and music industry professionals in the world. Some of the things I’ve learned from these guests have surprised, shocked and inspired me – occasionally all at once. I can’t wait to share these interviews.”

Jacqui Louez Schoorl, CEO and Co-Founder of Jaxsta, said, “I am an avid podcast consumer and it’s a thrill to have Jaxsta launch its own series. I’m incredibly excited that we have the opportunity to share the stories of these inspirational artists. Rod has a way of interviewing people that is really special and results in very honest and at times raw conversations. I am extremely proud of Rod and our new podcast and I hope everyone enjoys it as much I do.”
