Since the release of her critically acclaimed sophomore album Anak Ko in 2019, Melina Duterte—known to fans as Jay Som—has spent the past several years cultivating her skills as a producer and audio engineer. Her work during this period includes producing credits on the GRAMMY-winning the record by boygenius, Lucy Dacus’ latest Forever Is A Feeling, and numerous beloved indie releases. She has also toured with boygenius, collaborated with artists including Troye Sivan and beabadoobee alongside No Rome, contributed to the I Saw the TV Glow soundtrack, and more.
Today, Jay Som returns with her highly anticipated new album Belong, released via Lucky Number. While always a solo project, this album sees Duterte expanding her creative world through collaborations with outside musicians, writers, and producers. She wrote, composed, performed, produced, engineered, and mixed the record with contributions from Joao Gonzalez (Soft Glas), Mal Hauser (Mk.gee, Illuminati Hotties), Steph Marziano (Vundabar, Hot Wax, Sir Chloe), and Kyle Pulley, while also welcoming guest vocalists for the first time.

Belong captures Duterte’s search for her place within an indie rock ecosystem that she stepped away from over the past six years. The result is an 11-song record unlike any Jay Som has made before, balancing supercharged power-pop tracks, hazy ballads, experimental electronic textures, and lighters-up anthems—all exploring self-definition and the pursuit of belonging.
