The new single ‘Stranger’ from Adelaide artist Jess Johns was recently released through ‘Swirl Records’, with a beautiful new video clip filmed on super 8 to accompany.
Filmed on super 8 by Adelaide musician and artist Harriet Fraser-Barbour (Workhorse, Wireheads, Fair Maiden) – ‘Stranger’ sees Jess illuminated under a halo of sunlight floating amongst the autumn leaves like the angel that she is – nature and nurture embodied.

‘Stranger’ is the second single from Jess Johns upcoming album, also out through Swirl Records, with the debut single ‘Mercy’ released earlier in the year.
“Stranger” talks of the ease in which one can see the value in those who surround you, whilst struggling to have the same confidence in yourself and your own work. The song serves as a reminder, to bask in the contentment that you often offer others. The accompanying visuals, shot and directed on super 8 film by Harriet Fraser-Barbour, sees Johns gliding effortlessly through a beautiful backdrop of autumnal Adelaide sky, assuring all who will listen that they matter because they exist.
Jess Johns is the solo pursuit of enigmatic Adelaide artist, Jessica Johns. Jessica has an extraordinarily rare vocal talent making her a popular vocalist and musician in various Adelaide projects. Her first foray into live music came through post-high school psych-pop outfit Kashaguava. Though Kashaguava disbanded in 2016 Jess has since joined groups, Ricky Albeck and The Belair Line band, Purr, The High Beamers and Dom and The Wizards while co-founding Dead Roo and her own solo lead act, Jess Johns.
The Jess Johns band consists of David Blumberg (Maraby Band, The High Beamers), Ricky Albeck (Belair Line Band), Harry Freeman (Druid Fluids, The High Beamers, Purr) and Jess Johns (Dead Roo, Purr, The High Beamers). Together the group expertly craft a dreamy take on Indie Australiana with nods to the likes of Dolly Parton, Simon & Garfunkel and Cruise FM as well as more contemporary influences such as Hand Habits, Angel Olsen and Julia Jacklin.
