Auckland based rapper JessB today continues her formidable uprise, unveiling the dancehall-infused single “Shut Up!”, out now via The Orchard. A party playlist must-have, the release breathes exhilaration into any dance floor, and marks the second track from her forthcoming mixtape 3 Nights in Amsterdam, arriving in the coming months.
Following the footsteps of recent track “Pon It”, “Shut Up!” presents a punching fusion of dancehall, reggaeton and hip-hop, culminating in a pulsating dance floor heater that swiftly hooks from beat number one. JessB takes charge for “the underdogs” with her commanding lyrics and impeccable flow, steering through the hypnotic production and energetic four-on-the-floor baselines. With confidence reigning down, Jess conjures the style of childhood influence Missy Elliot, while leaving a presiding message to, “shut up more and just listen”.
“Shut Up!” lends the next slice from Jess’ forthcoming mixtape 3 Nights in Amsterdam, arriving later this year and also featuring recent single “Pon It”. The 6-track collection sees Jess dive into new sonic landscapes and styles, pulling from dancehall, reggaeton, garage and electronic influences alongside her increasingly iconic hip-hop flavour.
Speaking on the track and mixtape, JessB says: “Working in Amsterdam with Max (MOW Music) was a dope experience. It allowed me to push the boundaries with the types of music I usually like to create, while still being me. This song, and the mixtape to follow creates a sound that I think is still relatively new in the Australasian music scene. A new banger to bump, the lyrics speak for themselves!”

Jess’ first release in 2020 “Pon It” arrived with a livestream debut on London’s NTS Radio 24-hour on-air festival, following a spot in Triple J’s Hottest 100 countdown for her feature on Baker Boy’s fiery track “Meditjin” and an appearance on Triple J’s Like A Version for G Flip’s rendition of “Lady Marmalade” earlier in the year. The auspicious rapper burst onto the scene as the first female MC on Red Bull 64 Bars in 2017, before cultivating her sound in London, Amsterdam, LA and New York and taking to the global stage in a few short years with performances at Venice Biennale, Red Bull Music Festival, Splendour in the Grass, Laneway Festival and Fire Fight Australia, alongside Baker Boy. JessB has taken home the 2019 MTV Europe Music Award for Best New Zealand Act, garnered support from Spotify, appearing on global playlist A1 Hip-Hop and performing at the flagship Spotify A1 Live event, all the while releasing two acclaimed EPs, New Views and Bloom. Beyond her own success, Jess continuously seeks to uplift and support the creative communities around her, including her role as co-curator for the popular Filth club night with regular collaborator Half Queen. Most recently, she also featured on “Flying” as part of NZ rap collective BLKCITY, and now has her Triple J Bars of Steel performance live on Apple Music.
“Shut Up!” presents the next stage for JessB and her meteoric rise in hip-hop and beyond, a sonic diversity soon to be discovered in full on her forthcoming mixtape 3 Nights in Amsterdam. Stay tuned for more thrilling output from the groundbreaking MC, coming soon.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
